Optiplex GX620 Dual Head question

I've just taken delivery of an Optiplex G620 with an ATI x600se Gpu. When l ordered it this card was listed as 'ATI Radeon X600 SE 128MB Dual Monitor Graphics Card' How exactly do l run this as a dual monitor card? I have 2x19" tft's (both VGA) I'm assuming l need a splitter cable. Any ideas where I'm supposed to get this from?

Hmm I didn't get one of these, only a DVI to VGA adaptor...

The other Gotcha is that if you got a low profile system then the Second monitor connector is not available at all then.

If the card doesnt have a VGA and DVI connection it comes with a cable that looks like a Y connection that says monitor 1 and monitor 2 on it.

I got a tower so should l have got one of these cables from Dell? (I'm wondering if it's because l only ordered one monitor at the time ( l already had the other one)

Just FYI: I have this same setup (F1QHQ71), with the x600 radeon card. I also have 2 2005FPW monitors.

According to the dell Europe website, the x600 isn't dual monitor capable. However, *windows* seems to think that it is. According to the order website, dual monitor support is available form the x600 with a DVI Y split cable. However, this was not included in the system, and I can't seem to find a link anywhere on dell to order one.

I just can't figure out why dell would sell me two monitors on one system if the graphics card can't support dual monitors, or if I have to buy a 3rd party cable.

Time for a phone call to Dell methinks If it isn't dual monitor capable then I'm not a happy bunny to say the least, as I specced this card purely for it's dual monitor capability....

Similarly I've been unable to locate the necessary splitter cable so far...I'll let you know if I find one anywhere. It does however seem a bit strange that they sold you the system with 2 monitors but no cable....

Its not a splitter cable. On the systems that use it the DVI connection has DUAL screen capability. Not mirroring but extening your desktop or not onto 2 seperate screens.

Im not sure about the capability or not.

The cables that I have used were on GX260 systems so the probably dont apply
but the principle is the same.

THE SE as in slow edition of the card DOES NOT SUPPORT 2 MONITORS

I've emailed Dell support on this, so we'll see what happens. It doesn't make any sense to sell a system with the option of two monitors if none of the graphics card options can support dual monitors. And, I still don't buy that the card can't support dual monitors, since Windows XP reports that it does. The only issue is that I need a cable that takes one male DVI and turns it into two male DVIs. That's *it*. But nobody in the world (except for dell!) seems to make this cable, and Dell doesn't even seem to sell it. And yet, they appear on ebay....

it's a magical funhouse mystery.

All,

First, let me apologize. This X600SE for Optiplex video card was never intended for dual monitor usage and shouldn't have been sold under this pretense. The only dual display functionality is the following:
- CRT and TV = VGA connector with DVI-I-to-VGA adapter and S-Video connector
- DVI and TV = Dual Displays DVI-I and S-Video connector

So where does this leave me considering i forked out extra for this card specfically on the basis i could run 2 monitors on it?

This is the only workaround I know...

Remove the Ati drivers and the Ati video card. Add the following:
X8760 DVI Add on Adapter, Dual DVI, Full Height

Here are the contacts for systems in the UK. I recommend you contact them for help.

That's not really what l was driving at. My point is l that spent money on something l wouldn't have because it was misrepresented on the site. Surely this mean l should be in line for some kind of compensation?
