P490 & P690 45nm support?

Will we be able to upgrade our 490 and 690 Systems with the new Penryn cores? My hope is Dell will adapt the 5000 series chipsets to support these new cores, a great way to stretch our investments. Thanks, Ken

Don't count on it. Intel has a long history of altering pin assignments, voltage regulator specs, and other hardware such that older boards won't take new CPUs.

I have tried the 5420 (Penryn) on a Dell 690 with motherboard DT029. It will not work.  Maybe on a different Motherboard (MY171) it will but no one has tested yet.
