PC freezes on Dell logo on start up

Hi, my 2 month old pc wont go past the Dell logo screen when you switch it on and none of the F keys work.  I have looked at the troubleshooting on the website and it seems I may need to download a BIOS update but how can I run that update on my Dell pc?  Does anyone have any other solutions to my problem, I will give Dell tech support a ring on Monday but just wondered if there was anything else I could try in the meatime? Many thanks

Hello. You can try to release the static. In order to do that you just have to power off the computer and then remove the adapter and the battery.

Then push and hold the power button for more than 10 seconds and then power on the computer on just the adapter.

Try this and if it didnot work then please let me know.

Re: PC freezes on Dell logo on start up

There are a couple of things.

First remove all external device except the keyboard, mouse, monitor. See if that makes a difference.

normally a bios hang is the result of some device having a issue initializing with the bios.

It is also a CMOS reset might work too. this usually involves using a jumper on the motherboard. If you list your system model we can point you to the procedure or if you have a hard copy of your system manual, look in that for the CMOS reset procedure

Re: PC freezes on Dell logo on start up

Hello Ruby43, First you need to uplug the power cable from the system. Then you need to remove the side panel, and in the lower part of the motherboard, near the front, you should see the small coin sized battery, about the size of a US quarter.

Be sure you notice which side is facing up (+ or -), and simply remove the battery.

There should be two small spring type clips holding the battery in the battery holder.

Leave it out for about 30 seconds or so, for any voltages left in the system to disapate.

Reinsert the battery into the holder, remembering to install it as it was originally with respect to the + and - signs.

This procedure should reset the BIOS to the default settings.

Install the side panel, plug the power cord back in and reboot the system.

If this was the issue, you should have it resolved.

If you are successful, I would then download and install the BIOS update.

This can be installed from the desktop, without entering the systems case again.

Hope this helps.

RE: PC freezes on Dell logo on start up

first check on which bit your windows is based on, if it is 32 bit windows and 64 bit processor, you should do a clean 63 bit windows install. this solved my problem, it may solve your probllem
