Have a PCMCIA card with a Ricoh chipset (r/rl/5c485) .. Anyone know where I can get the drivers for this device?

You need to post your model computer and operating system.

I think you mean PCI to PCMCIA Adapter is a RICOH R/RL/RT/RC/5C475(II), R5C520 or compatible CardBus Controller and you get error code 12.

Code 12

This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system. (Code 12)

Cause

This error can occur if two devices that are installed on your computer have been assigned the same I/O ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel (either by the BIOS, the operating system, or both). This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device.

Recommended resolution

You can use the Troubleshooting Wizard in Device Manager to determine where the conflict is, and then disable the conflicting device.

Disable the conflicting device

  1. On the device Properties dialog box, click the General tab.

  2. Click Troubleshoot to start the Troubleshooting Wizard . The wizard asks you some simple questions and provides a solution to your problem based on the answers that you provide.

  3. Follow the resolution steps provided by the wizard to resolve the problem.

These cards work fine in XP and not at all in windows 7.

The drivers are Native to Windows XP.

Win 7 PCMCIA driver does not allow 5v 16-bit PCMCIA cards with Ricoh CardBus slots. Do you know if your card is 16-bit? (If its a modem or serial card then it will be 5v 16-bit).

Nooo, I really do mean the Ricoh chipset r/rl/5c485 driver .. not new to the Dell world or the IT world by any stretch.  This is for a card reader that connects back to the PCMCIA card (not the standard media card type readers either).  The 5c476 drivers install by default but I am searching for the 5c485 drivers since that is what the manufacturer of the device is recommending.

Ricoh chipset r/rl/5c485 driver  is native to windows.  However the T3500 REQUIRES PCI 2.3 cards.

5v PCI 2.0 cards DO NOT and will NEVER work in a T3500.   There is no Dell Driver for this part because

its native to windows.   The R5C485 (1slot)/ 486 (2 slots) is a single chip solution offering PCI bus - PC Card bridge function.

The card MUST HAVE 2 Keyways to be PCI 2.3 compliant.

This also means that ONLY 3.3v CARDBUS cards will work.

None of the 5v PCMCIA Cards will work.

Here are the few specs listed with the reader ..

Compliant with ACPI and PCI Bus Power management 1.1

Compliant with PCI Local Bus Specifications 3.0

Compliant with PC Card Standard Release 8.1 Specification

PC-to-PCMCIA Host Bridge R5C843

We have searched the XP disc for the 5C485 driver but have come up with nothing.  Found a 5c487 driver on a dell driver DVD but windows defaults back to the 476 driver.

PCM-CR-PC1IC3 PCI Bus to PC Card and cardbus Read-Writer Internal Rear R5C485
Requires Genuine OEM or Retail Microsoft Windows XP CD-ROM for driver installation:

If you have a retail CD-ROM of the Windows XP/Vista/7 installation disk, then this isn't an issue since simply inserting the CD-ROM during the new hardware found routine will allow Windows to find and install the correct drivers. However, many end users purchase computers from large vendors with Windows XP/Vista/7 pre-installed and the CD-ROM they get with their system isn't a full copy of Windows (a restore disk).

In this case the end users needs to contact their system vendor and tell them that they need the "signed Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7 drivers for the R5C485, R5C486, R5C843, PCI1510, or PCI1520" depending on which controller their PC Card drive reader uses.

The drivers may already be on a system in "C:\\WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\pcmcia.sys",

and instructing the installation routine to that file may help.
