Thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. As it has been a little while since I first posted it without response, I did some further research and it seemed that the Intel heatsinks would not be compatible thanks to the 'unique' manner of mounting CPU coolers to the Dell motherboard. So I had no option but to source a used Dell heatsink from Ebay. It wasn't cosmetically perfect - who is going to see it anyway? emoticon.Wink.title - but it seems to be working well with no problems during a very long Windows 7 install and update.

So to add my own little bit of advice to the discussion for anyone considering the easier-to-get Intel heatsinks, don't bother, because they won't fit!

The info on the primary T7500 heatsink is all in this thread, but is spread  w a y  out. To summarize the Dell part numbers for the three versions of the primary heatsink for future readers:

U402F - the biggest and most desirable of the three; dissipates tons of heat. Four copper tubes are partially filled with liquid refrigerant (Freon) that boils to carry heat away from the CPU. The gaseous refrigerant condenses back to liquid in the finned section and flows back to the CPU. The four copper pipes protrude through the four holes in the black plastic Memory Shroud. As of March, 2016, out of stock with Dell Parts Dept. and unavailable on eBay.

U016F - about 2/3 the fins of U402F, but is still a boiling liquid to a gas refrigerant-based design.  The four copper pipes don't reach the four holes in the black plastic Memory Shroud.

T021F - a design built from a block of solid aluminum with slots. About the same size or a bit smaller than U016D. The least desirable of the three; hottest running of the three designs.

The U402F...

Dell Precision T7500 primary CPU Heatsink & Fan, Dell P/N W567F, or U414F.

Are you sure? I've done some searching, all the references say those are the PNs for the 2nd CPU

option, not the primary.

Or do you mean that the primary HS is the same one? Looking inside the case, that doesn't look right

re the extra blower asy.

Thanks!!

Ian.

Found it! The correct PN is T021F. And I found a source aswell, so I'm sorted. Thanks!! 😎

Hi,

T021F is the aluminium version - but there is also U016F:

OK ... and ?? What is your point ??

I don't have this heatsink, but if you look at the "Black Plastic Air Baffle XX416":

you will see four holes - I bet they will perfectly fit for the heatpipes from the heatsink 🙂

Otherwise - why they would bother to make those holes ??

The same situation is with memory risers for Dell 690 / T7400 - part numbers are different but memory risers with P/N for 690 are working perfectly fine in T7400 and vice versa. Heatsinks for 490, 690, T5400, T7400 are also fully interchangeable.

Oddly this still seems to be somewhat unanswered. I also am looking for an answer to this. My own digging around turns up 3 different heat sinks for the primary cpu. One solid aluminum and 2 copper/aluminum/heatpipe models. My guess is the actual specified heatsink is dependent on the processor installed. Some of the higher powered processors run much hotter then some of the lower power ones. The lowest power 5600 series Xeon processors only have a TDP of 40w while the 2 fastest have a whopping 130 TDP! My best guess is the solid aluminum heatsink is intended for the lower range (L5609, L5618, etc) 40w and 60w processors. The middle heatsink is probably intended for the middle range 80w processors. Finally the largest of the heatsinks is probably specified for the hottest of the 5600 series processors (the fastest quad and hex core models) running at 95w and 130w. The 3 model heatsinks I've run across are T012F - Solid aluminum one U016F - mid height aluminum/copper/heatpipe one U402F - tallest aluminum/copper/heatpipe one (this one does stick up into the 4 holes in the black plastic shroud)
