RE: PN for the primary heatsink in a T7500?

Jump to solution

Mine overheats to 88C in just 7 minutes and then the fan starts kicking up but only cooling it down to low 80C. The Tcase for these cpu's are 81.25C. Thanks a bunch

Have you checked if there is thermal paste ?

Yeap, I've actually redid it several times for one reason or another.

I don't think the T021F is up to cooling the higher watts of a hex core x5650 cpu. Will find out I guess with the other heatsink.

Is that at load?  For how long? What heatsink do you have on primary? A T5500 or T7500 computer? Which mobo (if it's T5500). Mine is fine at idle (cooler than your numbers) but at load (100%) within 7 minutes or so it is at high 8 ' s C.

Thanks

No load - iddle 🙂 T7500, 96GB RAM - 12x8GB.

I'll try to find something to test it under the load 😉

Ok thanks. I have a T5500 and I don't know what is different in the 7500's other than it having 3 options for the primary heatsink. I'm hoping the Heatsink will work. What heatsink is on yours (primary)?

After 5 minutes from running Prime95:

After 10 minutes from running Prime95:

After 15 minutes from running Prime95:

At this moment Prime95 was stopped ...

... and after another 5 minutes of cooling down:

So maybe you shouldn't worry too much about 85C on your primary CPU 😉 And wait a little bit longer 😉

But probably alu heatsink isn't good enough.

About heatsink I have - please check replies #6 and #7 😉

Like with other branded manufacturers - different part numbers are only to make more money 😉 in most cases - parts are exactly the same 😉

On my T7500 with the dual 5650 procs the primary heatsink is the largest one - the secondary one on the riser card is whatever one that comes with the riser - I forget which it is. Had not crossed my mind to check it since I've had no problems. My guess is the first one is the CPU on the riser with the smaller heatsink which is running a good 15 degrees hotter. Might have to look into an alternative heatsink for that one. When I upgraded the processors to the dual 5650's I did use Arctic Silver thermal compound on both. Everything was clean as could be and all. Mine is currently at 48GB of ram (12 x 4GB). Eventually I plan on upgrading the ram to 96GB and possibly one day a pair of 5680's but those are still very pricey.

I should also note - this is with a minor load. Photoshop (with a 1gb or so psd open) FlexiSign Pro, Illustrator, and a few other apps are all running. Mostly working in PS right now.

Thanks guys. Yeah it does worry me though as it is outside the spec of the max Tcase and I will have this thing rendering and/or simming anywhere from hours to days or weeks at a time. Mixmansc, that is interesting on yours showing 15C higher on one. It is the opposite one reading on my HWMonitor. I pulled the entire riser out and confirmed that the bottom one on mine is the primary. I figured they were backwards because I ran a Dell cpu diagnostic and when it was stressing the #0 cpu the bottom one on HWMonitor (and all other monitors) was the one heating up. Visa versa when stressing the #1 cpu. robinet, it is interesting as well that both of your cpus are in the 80's. Only one of mine is, and it is the primary with the *** heatsink. Here is mine after 7:34, and will stay like this forever as the fan rpm will rise and drop according to temp:
