Poor sound quality with Beats Bluetooth headphones

Jump to solution

Hi,

I have the XPS 8700 and just got a new set of PowerBeats3 headphones. They paired with my desktop but the sound quality is terrible.  It's extremely muffled. Sounds just like bad AM radio reception.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

The sound quality of the headset depends greatly on how it seals in the ear canal.  Try the different ear inserts and see if one allows better sound.  As long as you do not have them set as a communications device, they should sound good.

With mine if I put a little downward pressure the seal is better and I hear really good base ..

If you think it might be your computer, try the headset on another system.

Yeah... Definitely not a fit issue.  They sound great with my phone and my son's iPod.

Then the only thing I could check is, as mentioned, making sure they are not being seen as a communications device.  I don't have your computer my they seem fine on my laptop.

There are some other settings for the headset but may not be enough to change the sound.  You might check the audio quality setting to make sure it is set to stereo.

If nothing else, try removing it from other devices, especially if they are close by.

I figured out the problem and with some help, I got it fixed.

So, I noticed that I could hear faint sounds in the ear loops being picked up by the call mic. Even though, I didn't have anything running on the computer that required it, the mic was on continuously. I went to the Beats website and followed their trouble shooting guide which lead me to contacting AppleCare. I started a chat session and the TS rep helped me figure it out.

Basically, you were right.  I had to go into my system's audio settings to disable the microphone from the "Recording" tab. I also disabled the "Hands Free" options leaving only the headphones options enabled. Now, they sound great.

Thanks.

If your system was configured correctly, you should not need to disable anything.  So keep checking to see if you can get back to the configuration I show in the previous attachment. panel and not the Windows one.

Your system may be seeing the headphones as a  headset, which is normally handled by the Audio mixer, which may be Realtek or Waves MaxxAudioPro.
