Power supply for Inspiron 3668 i5-7400

I just purchased an Inspiron 3668 i5-7400. I need to upgrade to a power supply with at least 360 watts and am having great difficulty because the form factor of this Inspiron's power supply is very different  (about 9"x3.25"x2.5") than most PCs. Does anyone know of sites that have such power supplies? Been searching Amazon, Newegg, etc. without any luck.

The only way you're going to be able to put that capacity power supply in that system is to leave the actual power supply box outside the system and run the cables inside.

You will also most likely need an adapter to use a standard power supply with the mainboard in the Dell, which very likely uses an 8-pin connector.

Actually I managed to find a few power supplies that would fit (e.g. www.outletpc.com/kx6461-sdgr-tfx350-solid-gear-350w-power-supply.html ) but the problem is they all have only 1 6 pin connector but 2 are needed (1 is needed for the motherboard and 1 is needed for the video card). Is it possible to use a adapter, such as ATX 20+4 Pin to 6 pin?

No, it's not - you need a power supply that has the required connectors.  If this system is new enough to be within 30 days of shipment, you'd be better off returning it for a higher-end model -- this one is designed as a computing appliance, not a  high performance system.  You'd be better served by an XPS 8920 or Alienware system.

Hi OP,

I too just purchased this 3668 with i5 and Nvidia display card. How do you know the wattage of the stock PSU? I couldn't find it on the service label, only marked as 110/240V. Sorry for a bit off-topic.

By the way I think the machine is a very good deal.

on the parts list on the dell website it says

VX0HP : Module,Chassis,Pwa Integrated, Non Pfc,240W,3668

i also spoke with Dell tech support and they confirmed it. They also stated that the power supply cannot be upgraded above 240 watts, and the 6 pin power connector on the motherboard is not PCIe,  so I had to return this PC
