Problems with Dell XPS 435 Sound
Hi:
I have a DELL XPS Studio Desktop computer purchased in 2009 with Vista 64 bit OS. Until 3 days ago the speakers on my computer were working. These are the original speakers that came with my computer BOSE Companion 2 Multimedia Speakers. Initially the sound was at 100% now it suddenly went down to 40%. I updated the speakers to another Bose and I am still having the same problem, my sound capacity diminish from 100 to 40 %.
I've checked all the sound card drivers and they are current, I've also checked the sound manager file and that is also in order. I've also done a "sound test" and I can hear the sound on the Left & Right speakers, the problem is that when I attempted to listen to music or listen to online video I hear a very faint sound coming out of both speakers, almost like a whisper.
Can anyone provide me with some fix-it advice.

Hi Sundeep:
Thanks for your recommendation, I did install several audio drivers that were recommended on the Dell Diagnostics page, but this did not resolve my sound problem. I'm thinking I probably need a new sound, in addition to other parts. My computer is going on 4 yrs old, its starting to fall apart, I recently purchased a replacement.

Hi NYCityGirl,
Once the sound drivers have been updated you may run the audio troubleshooter from the link : http://bit.ly/13mLAi1
You may try updating the sound drivers from the link : http://dell.to/QjjZDA -> Enter the service tag of your system -> Select the operating system -> Expand the Audio category and download/install the audio drivers for your system -> Restart the system when prompted
If the issue persists, then it might be an issue with the sound level for individual applications. In Windows Vista you can adjust the volume separately for individual programs using the mixer. You may follow the steps below to verify if the sound levels are to maximum level :
Hope this helps. Do reply with the findings.

Hi NYCityGirl,
I understand your concern. You can consider purchasing a replacement system. However, I would still recommend performing PC restore. PC Restore resolves many software issues on system and takes the computer back to day one i.e. the first day you purchased the system.
Note : PC restore leads to complete data loss. Ensure that you have backed up important data on your system to an external drive.
You may refer to the steps for performing PC Restore in article Here
Hope this helps. Please reply with the findings.

I am having major problems with the motherboard, and it would cost me several hundred dollars to replace, so it makes more sense to purchase a new system.
