Ram Upgrade for Vostro 220mt

Hi,

I'm using Windows 8 32bit on my Dell Vostro 220mt, and recently I have found that my low ram is starting to become an issue. So, to upgrade to 4GB of ram, what 2GB ram stick could I buy that would work in my PC?

        Specs:

  • Windows 8 32Bit
  • 2.5GB Ram - 2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Kingston Ram and 1GB DDR2 PC2-6400 OEM Ram
  • Asus HD6670
  • Intel Core2Quad Q8400
  • 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black
  • 160GB OEM HDD
  • DVD RW Drive
  • OEM Motherboard (0P301D)
Any help is much appreciated,
Jon

Hi JonnyPC12,

Good day!

Thanks for reaching out to us. You can check on DDR2 800 MHz SDRAM (DDR2 667 MHz capable)

512 MB / 4 GB RAM. Hope this helps. For anything else, just let me know and I would be glad to assist further.

Thanks and Regards,

The Vostro 220 Mini Tower supports a maximum of 4gb Memory, but when you have a 32-bit system, this does not recognize 4gb of memory, 3±gb is all a 32-bit system can address.

Basically what it means is, while you can install 4gb of memory in the system, the reason it’s not recognized is mainly due to 32-bit processors and/or 32-bit applications on memory address limitations.

64-bit processors & operating systems will recognize beyond the 32-bit limitation.

Provided you have Bios version 1.3 and a 64 bit version of Windows, it absolutely will run 8GB of ram

Specs are-- DDR2 240pin PC2 6400 800mhz 1.8v

I used 2 4GB sticks.... Not easy to find-try eBay/Amazon

Also, you may need to update the Bios to latest version

Thanks for sharing. Just realize that I posted in the wrong post. I have a vostro 220s actually. I am going to reply to the other thread:

For some reason, I cannot reply to the thread on 220s.

jridge1962, can you share the 8GB memory model type you used for your vostro 220s? A link would be even better.

Thanks

$154 for RAM seems a bit over priced to spend on a obsolete computer, that's worth at the maximum $150.

@jridge1962 the spec seems slightly different from the OEM memory, which is PC2 6400. Have you used this yourself?

I bought this one, but unfortunately it does not work:

Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR800D2K2/4GR.

Thanks for the link, SHESAGORDIE, seems like it is not worthwhile to upgrade?
