Re-installing Windows, SATA drivers from floppy

I have a Dimension 8400, without the original XP CD, so I am re-installing XP from a OEM CD.  With the service tag number, I got the SATA drivers from Dell and installed them on a floppy.

The drive is brand new.  The BIOS sees the drive.  I can put the drive in a different computer, and it sees it.  But after running setup from the XP CD,  pressing F6 to load additional drivers and trying both of these 2 options, I still get the message that no fixed disk was found in the system.

- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller

I don't get it.  The drive is good.   The BIOS sees it.  According to Dell, these drivers should work.

What else could be wrong??

Is this the procedure that you used?

If you don't have an internal floppy drive, or are not using RAID, the following may help you.

Enter the system setup, scroll down to drives, press Enter or + to expand the drive menu then down to "SATA Operation", press Enter.

Change the SATA operation mode to "RAID Autodetect/ATA" press ESC to save and exit the BIOS.

Then XP should install without a problem.

Bev.
