Reformat Dell XPS420
Hi, I just bought Win 8.1 and want to wipe everything off my XPS and start fresh, I have saved all my documents , music, videos, photos, and stuff to my external hard drive.
How do I go about this and will I need to go online and download other things that make the PC run like Adobe flash player and other software??
Any suggestions?

Hi Eischman,
Dell XPS 420 has not been tested for Windows 8 or 8.1 operating system. Therefore you will not find Windows 8.1 drivers for it. However you can run the Windows 8 upgrade assistant. You can run ‘Windows 8 upgrade assistant’ from the link below and check if the system is compatible with Windows 8.

Also, you may try installing the vista drivers in compatibility mode.

The XPS 420 may not work with 64 bit Windows 8.1 but absolutely will with 32 bit windows 8.1
(When WIN8 drivers are not available you use Vista or 7 drivers)
Flash is included with the windows 8 browser. Java and other software like firefox only work with the Desktop.I highly recommend classic shell via sourceforge. One should only go to the source for these.

Im starting to think this was a bad idea, after running the upgrade assist, one item that was not compatable (one of many) was the bluetooth software, so my keyboard and mouse will not work?

Generic USB Bluetooth adapters are $20
Buy a new Drive And Install on that you can always swap back.
If you dont go online and activate you can test all the hardware offline and decide if you want to use on that machine or not.
