Replacement for Dell Precision Workstation 690 with Win7-64 Ultimate to accept 4Tb hard drives.

I have a Dell Precision Workstation 690  3.73 Ghz with Win7-64 Ultimate installed.  I wish to replace it with a USED  re-manufactured (?) desktop computer (that I can purchase on eBay)  that has a motherboard that will accept 4Tb hard drives. It would be nice it the pc can accept 4 SATA drives.

Any suggestions on a "out of date"  fast (3.73 GHz ?) model that I can purchase as a re-manufactured?

Hi TenOC,

The answer depends on whether you plan to use a 4TB drive for the operating system or for data storage.

I will use the 4Tb only for data.  The OS will be on a 120Gb "C" drive and applications will be on a 500Gb "E"  drive. .

Have you tried a 4TB drive on that system?

You could add a controller card. Much easier than replacing the entire system.

Yes, I know, but the system is old and I want something not as old.

There has been a number of programs installed and un-installed. I am thinking about reformatting the OS and Application drives and doing a clean re-installing of only the current required applications. If I am going to all that trouble, why not "up-date" the hardware also.  I do not think the Dell 690 was  designed to operate with Win 7 - 64.  I think(?) that a system that was designed for Win7 - 64 may be somewhat faster.

I can always sell the old 690 on eBay or Craigslist.

The 690 is a beast though. It has 4 or 6 drive bays and 1000w power supply.

If you want something newer my recommendation would be a T7500

They were and are designed to get the most out of Windows 7 and beyond.
