SE198WFP flat screen monitor goes black intermittently - mfg Sep 2007

I have a SE198WFP display monitor date of mfg Sept 2007 that I am using with a Inspiron 660 desktop since October 2013 without any issues.   Recently, screen intermittently black for extended periods i.e. screen will be on for seconds then goes black until it resolves on its own, I guess, then repeats the problem.

Monitors go bad after only 8.5 years?   or is it worth incurring diagnostic fees to troubleshoot?   Thank you.
