SM Bus driver issue Dell optiplex 790
Hi all,
Another system I had to upgrade to windows 7. Everything is working but I'm getting the common SM bus error missing under devices. Its possible perhaps I installed the wrong firmware or missed a chipset driver. I did do a system scan and Dell provided the chipset driver and Intel management driver that is used by this PC. When I attempt to install these drivers, however, I get a fail error as shown below. Can anyone point me to the right chipset driver for the optiplex 790 or SM update?

32- or 64-bit Win 7?
For 64-bit:
If necessary, reboot in Safe Mode to install Chipset.

If Intel Management Engine driver isn't installed, you'll probably see an error for PCI Simple Controller in Device Manager.
AMT enables remote management of networked systems. So they do different things and I don't know if you need/want AMT or not...
BTW: If any of these drivers don't install in Safe Mode, reboot normally and right-click that file and select "Run as Administrator" from the menu.

I have a Dell Optiplex 790 Desktop. It has bios 790-A18 installed. I am running Windows 10 Pro x64 on it with a 3TB Western Digital hard disk on UEFI bios. The processor is an Intel I5-2400 and it has at total of 10gb of ram memory.
If you have an Optiplex 790 with Windows 7 or 8 installed, go for the free Windows 10 upgrade. I have been a part of the Windows 10 insider test program and Windows 10 works great on my Optiplex 790. It installed all drivers automatically, no problem. Just upgrade to the latest bios - 790-A18 first.

Hello - I happen to see this post as a result of a search and wondered if you had run into the following error on a Windows 10 install.
0xC1900101-0x30018 The installation failed in the FIRST_BOOT phase with an error during the SYSPREP operation.
It's on an Optiplex 790 USFF. 4GB, A18 BIOS, updated Video, NIC and chipset drivers. Removed Symantec, Run as local admin, unplugged all unneeded USB and extended display. Changed boot device order. Running from USB thumb drive.
Any ideas?

I had no errors when upgrading to Windows 10. I did do a clean install of Windows 7 Professional first. Made sure it was activated and that the latest drivers were loaded. I installed Windows 10 Professional from a USB key that I created from a Windows 10 Pro ISO using Rufus. I used the Microsoft Upgrade Tool to download the ISO.
