Should Vista display the 'Going to sleep' message before loading to Desktop?
Hello, I'm using Inspiron 530 model with Vista Home Premium.
I am not very computer literate, but surely the 'Going to sleep' message should not be displayed between the Intel/Dell logo screen and loading to the desktop? I've also had several blue screen errors, twice after installing things: a brand new canon printer and a wireless speedtouch 121g usb adaptor. I have also had the blue error screen a few times during general use. The blue screen causes the computer to automatically restart, and the message reads something regarding dumping to memory.
I have uninstalled Mcafee virus center as i've heard this may be a source of conflict, but I'm still unsure about the 'going to sleep' message as it appears once when I turn the computer on and once again.
I've also messaged Dell about this but have no reply so far.
Thanks for any help!

Glary Utilities - once installed, click on the all-in-one tab and just let it scan all your problems away
Free AVG anti spyware - good anti spyware for Vista
Just google everything. I have all this installed on my computer and it's been a very worry free experience since.

I hope this solves your problems. While you read this, you should use this website owned by Microsoft http://secunia.com/software_inspector/ It will tell you which one of your programs are out of date and give you the links to the website to fix it.
Oh yes, McAfee was definitely not your problem. If you unistalled Mcafee, you probably need to install some kind of free anti virus. For Vista, the best anti virus I could recommend for you would be Free AVG anti virus.

Thanks for the help. I tried system restore but for some reason all my software still remained on the computer. I've discovered my printer was vista compatible anyway, and have downloaded drivers for my internet usb adaptor directly from the site and reinstalled it using these. I have also used the secunia website, and apparently the only thing out of date is my java. Haven't had a blue screen whilst doing all this but I still get the 'going to sleep' message before it loads the desktop.
Thanks for the recommendations on the virus checkers.
