I tried using the driver CD to see if it will help with anything rebooting and I did some Express Test. It gave me this code:
Error Code: 650F:136C
Msg: IDE device failed. Blank media or no media is present in optical drive. Test requires media with data (Resource CD, Installation CD).
Have no clue what it is. Ive done some reading on Mup.sys. It requires me to remove some 'USB card'. I dont really see any . Any advice would be appreciated or if you have anymore further queries let me know.
Thats not a error to worry about.
That error comes up when u run express test on the computer and the cd drive is empty.
Are we working on a notebook or a desktop.
And mup.sys is a system file .You can repiar mup.sys by following these steps.
1>Start the computer from the Windows Xp CD.
2>At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to repair.
3>At the C:\Windows prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
ren c:windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys mup.old
4>At the C:\Windows prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
expand <cd-romdrive>:\i386\mup.sy_ c:\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys
5>After the file is successfully expanded, type exit, and then press ENTER to exit Recovery Console.
6>Restart the computer.
Best of Luck.
I have like 5 different CDs when I got my Desktop Dimension XPS 400. McAfee CD, Operating System CD, Drivers and Utilities CD, Drivers and User Documentation CD, Word Perfect CD. The OS CD has the Windows XP Media Center, but I dont know how to bring it up when I start up my computer. Once it boots up, theres the F2 Setup, and the F12 Boot something... Then it goes directly to the Windows XP loading screen. Thank you by the way for your patience in even responding to my inquiry. Im trying to surf a lot online myself on this laptop I have (thank goodness). So I really appreciate it. So how do I go about using the afformentioned CDs? How do I access the Windows XP from the OS CD?
Pop in the windows xp cd and restart the computer.
Press F12 on restart so that you see one time boot menu.
Hightlight cd drive over there oranything that says cdrom.
Press enter on the selection and keep on pressing spacebar after that till the time u see a blue windows setup screen and then perform the steps mentioned in above post.
Best of Luck!
At step 3, after a minute or two when I pressed enter, it said, Access is denied 😞
I was actually checking to see if was right so I retyped: (ren c:\windows\system32\drivers\mup.sys mup.old ) with the slash before windows. Its still denying access. And meaning C:\Windows prompt, does it mean C:\> ? Or should it have C:\>Windows\> ? Trying to remember some of the old memory I used to know about bringing up directories and what not. Trying to play around with it. Still not coming up with anything. Im going to try to reboot and check everything from the start and I will post an update here. Thank you again for your patience in regards to this matter! 🙂
At step 3 you get access denied does that mean are you working in recovery cosole i.e.after booting from windows xp cd
If yes and if there is important data on the harddrive connect a external hardrive to the system.
type in xcopy c:(source) x:(destination)
x is the drive letter for the external drive.
This will copy the entire c drive and ur documents to the external harddrive.
Now you can reinstall windows xp on the system.
Try this and let me knw.
Well at the "Welcome to Setup" I have 3 choices, to set up Windows XP, repair it using Recovery Consolr, or quit setup. I just did repair right now again and waiting for it to finish running. Just letting you know now, I dont have any external harddrives. Theres nothing really any much of importance in it. Personal pictures possibly but the rest are attainable and can be replaced. I just finished rebooting back to C:\> Ill try out your steps, again. Wish me luck!
PS: Do you think if I do a CTRL+F11 it and do a factory reboot, it will fix the whole thing? Id rather deal with software issues, start from the beginning rather than a hardware going capoot on me. Not enough cash to shell out nowadays 😕
Yeah I just did. Back to scratch 🙂 Thank you so much for sticking with me and my issues Iamprateekjain2005. I really appreciate the tips and help. Kudos in everything you do! ^_^;
I am having the same type of problem....I think. We have a laptop and we have been getting different types of windows errors. Now the computer just shut itself off. When you turn it off.....it boots up and you get to the mup/sys error when it is loading the drivers. I have tried using the driver disk as well as the XP disk. Regadless if you choose safe mode or any other choice, you still get to a blue screen stating that an error has been detected and to check hardware for any BIOS updated. It also suggests chosing safe mode. It does say below technical information: ***STOP: 0x0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF85480BF, 0XF8994208, 0XF8993F08) then below that *** pci.sys - Address F85480BF base at F8541000, datestap 3b7d855c
I tried going through the F2 setup mode to try to repair by pressing R but nothing showed up except a list of menu items....none of which listed repair.
