Studio Slim 540s won't power on. Is it the power supply?
I have a Dell Studio Slim 540s that has been a reliable machine for years. Today, I tried to reboot and it hung in the middle of the boot. I turned the machine off and now it will not turn on again. Usually the fan doesn't start. Sometimes the fan will start but I never get any hard drive activity or beeping from the computer. There is a green light that turns on in the back of the power supply.
Is this most likely a dead power supply? Or some other culprit?

It might be and would be the first item I'd check.
Unfortunately, the only way I know of to check is to swap in a known good power supply. The form factor is TFX, and Seasonic makes better-than-OEM quality replacements available on Newegg.

Many thanks. I bought the Seasonic TFX power supply from Newegg and my machine is working great again. I'm delighted it works. And from the reviews I've read, this is really a great power supply. So far, it works perfectly for me.
