Studio XPS 8100 Cursor on Black Screen
I have a Studio XPS 8100
My computer rebooted the other day and now goes to a Dell logo screen (with F2 or F12 option) then goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor on the top left. When I do select F12 and run the utilities (single pass) everything passes. I haven't run the full testing on everything.
I have also used F12 to "Boot to Utility Partition" and it goes to the black screen with cursor again.
I have tried taking the cmos battery out and putting it back in (read this on another thread) and selected Yes to load defaults afterward and it went to black screen/cursor again.
Please help!!

It sounds like the hard drive is corrupted and Windows will have to be reloaded.
You say you ran the "Utilities" which I assume is the hardware diagnostics. If there were no hard drive errors that would also tend to point toward a corruption on the hard drive for Windows.
If the drive is still working, F8 at POST (Dell screen) will access the Dell Recovery partition on the hard drive and allow you to restore back to factory condition. Unfortunately this will erase all user data. But, as the hard drive is apparently corrupted there may not be any way of recovering user data, if it wasn't backed up to some other media.
If you can't access the Recovery Partition it may mean the hard drive is toast and will have to be replaced. If you are still under warranty/extended warranty contact Dell support.
