System Reserved Partition Required?

Computer is a Studio XPS 9100 (Mid 2010). The OS is Win 8.1 64 bit. I am planning to install a Crucial M500 SSD as the boot drive. Is the System Reserved partition necessary when I migrate the disk image to the new SSD?

Thank you.

Windows 8 requires a recovery and MSR and other partitions.  The msr is usually at least 100 megs and the recovery is 350 megs.  So on a 500 gig drive they need less than 500 megs for all of that so yes its required. The system and msr are not optional ever.  Dell adds a recovery partition that is usually 15 gigs.
