T7910 RAM compatibility

Jump to solution

Currenly, I've got 192GB RAM on my T7910 workstation. This is "as purchased":
- 8* Samsung M393A1G43DB0-CPB (8 GB)
- 8* Hyundai HMA42GR7MFR4N-TF (16 GB)

1) I'd like to replace 8GB DIMMs with 32GB ones (e.g. Samsung M393A4K40BB1-CRC0Q). Is this OK?

2) Short googling says that "Samsung M393A4K40BB1-CRC0Q" is DDR4, RDIMM, 2Rx4, ECC. Anything else to check? Is there a chance to run into something unexpected?

3) Am I correct, that this page of the manual contains obsolete information:

Memory module capacity (4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB RDIMM, and 32 GB LR-DIMM)

and this one contain relevant examples, allowing options with 32GB RDIMM modules (it doesn't explicitly mention mixing 32GB and 16GB case though)?

4) If those page in the manual is not correct, could anyone, please, correct it?

The answer is yes.

I've installed my new modules,  ( now I have 8*16GB + 8*32GB), and everything is working OK.

I've also contacted Dell via online support chat (twice) before the purchase - but they tend to just open those first page in the manual and say "no" at first. Next, you say "look here, there's another one" and they change their opinion. But they do not admit those first page is a bit misleading and need to be adjusted. Nice support Smiley Happy
