Think it'll fit?

I'm running the machine in my sig... will a GeForce 9800 GX2 fit, and given that I've used a few plugs for added cooling, will I have the power to run it? (I've used two four pin power connectors for fans.) Of course, I'll be removing the 8800 GT's first Smiley Wink

As always, this community's input has been invaluable. Thanks in advance for your input!

Re: Think it'll fit?

I'm not familiar with the dimensions of your 720, but I think you could go to the web site of the card you're interested in and check out the specs which should include the dimensions.  If not, give them a call and find out.  Then measure the width you have available in your case and go from there. Re: Think it'll fit?

The card should work. What is the rating of your PS? 750 or 1kw? Im guessing it's 750

You will need a 6 to 8 pin adapter if one does not come with the card. Since you have two gts you should be able to adapt one of the six pin plugs to the 8 pin plug.

If you do have the 750 you would need to upgrade to the 1kw if you want to go with two cards.

Re: Think it'll fit?

Are you planning on running just one 9800x2?  If so dont bother.  Many benchmarks have already proven that two 512 8800GT's in SLI are faster then one 9800x2.  It would be a waste of money IMO to buy that card unless you planned on buying two of them to run those in SLI....

Re: Think it'll fit?

Here are the benchmarks to prove it.  I know its not in english but the charts are all you really need to pay attention to:

Re: Think it'll fit?

Hmm... very interesting, 03.

I was actually looking at running one of these in place of the 2 8800 GT's for a few reasons... lower heat generation, open up some space in the box to improve air circulation, and the ability to put a second monitor in place, but I won't sacrifice performance to do it. Frankly, none of the things I mentioned are all that important.

I'll take another look at the comparisions. Can anyone suggest a single card that will meet or exceed a pair of stock 8800 GT's?

Re: Think it'll fit?

I'll take a look at the 280 card... I won't run a Radeon product.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Why won't you run a Radeon card? Bad experiences in the past?
