USB - can it handle 3 connections?

I have a Dimension 8200 with 4 USB ports (2 back, 2 front).
I want to connect a label printer (Dymo 300), a handheld
organizer (HP Journada 568), and a Memorex Compactflash-
Smartmedia card reader. I have had lots of troble and ususally one does not function properly.
I did some cleaup in the Safe Mode, removing the drivers
and letting the Wizzard re-install them. No help. The
component support people point their fingers at Dell, saying
that the USB cannot support more than 2 devices reliably.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello-When you use USB devices, they draw power from the computer. You may have exceeded the limit for the computer's ability to supply this power. A self-powered USB hub may be the solution to your problems.

lesbesser,

The 8200 has plenty of power to handle 3 USB devices. I have 6 on my 8200 using the two USB's on the back for Keyboard and Mouse, the two on the front for Scanner and Printer, and I have 2 more on the keyboard which I use for Camera and PDA. The only problem I've had is when trying to go into BIOS. I have to unplug the Camera and the PDA from the keyboard or it hangs.

I have 5 USB devices attached. All you need is a powered USB hub. I have a Belkin, but I am sure most any brand will work OK. Just be sure it is a powered unit.
