Upgrade to AGP Slot?

Can I upgrade to an AGP slot in the Dimension 2350 ???? I bought a brand new Dimension 2350, and got a real nice bargain for it. But I'm a full-time gamer but didn't have much knowledge back then! I bought this computer in April!

Anyway! Command and Conquers Generals, does not work that good, even though I have the 128 MB GeForce FX5200 "PCI" video card and I know it's because of the PCI card. I have upgraded me Ram to 768 mb , which made a little difference but not much!

I dont knwo what to do, Im pretty sure, an AGP card would make my gaming experience a lot better, but I did not know that Dell Dimension 2350 did not have an AGP slot :(  even the best PCI card does not make me feel my computer is all that. Even though I wanted a full gamer computer. Because I have the best PCI card out there!

Please let me know if I can some how get a AGP slot in a 2350 Dimension! I just dont wanna buy a new computer! THe PCI works fine, but AGP would be amazing and that's what I really want.

is there anyway, any configuration to get my computer to maximum performance? I mean, I have 768 MB RAM, 128MB RAM GeForce FX5200, My games should work fine, but GTA VICE CITY, sometimes slows down and the game play is choppy same with Battlefield 1942~

Im not that happy with this, since I have suped up my computer as much as I could, I dont think there is a better video card out there then the one I already have, so what should I do now??? what else do I need??

omaleem,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum (DCF).
You cannot add an AGP slot.

Which brand of FX 5200 PCI did you get?  There are several different varieties, each with its own level of performance.  However, if you want to maximize your gaming performance without getting another pc or motherboard, then you will need to add a Visiontek 9100 PCI 128mb, which you can get for $70US at www.tigerdirect.com.  It's a bit faster than the FX 5200 PCI, enough so that I can safely say that it's the best PCI card you can currently buy.  Here's a review of the 9100 PCI against several other PCI cards, including the FX 5200:

Well, if you could E-bay your 5200 PCI, or sell it to someone else for $50-70 or so, you could then get the 9100 PCI for very little cost.

Just a thought.

EDIT:  Lamborghini1107, I have to disagree with you on some of your points.  Your point that the Dell techs told him that he couldn't add a video card because they didn't want him to void his warranty is just wrong.  As a matter of fact, he doesn't void his warranty by adding a video card.  Dell's policy is to warranty everything that came inside the original sytem order, and when you replace some of those components the replacements are not covered under warranty, but the original remaining parts are.

I have read more than one account of Dell tech's telling 23xx series owners that they could not add a video card, and the fact is that these techs really don't know all that much about the systems they are supporting (or at least they don't know much about add-on video cards).  When I first wanted to add a video card to my 4500S, I also called the tech. support, and they couldn't even tell me what kind (if any) of video card I could add.  I didn't know anything about AGP or PCI back then, but I remember one tech. saying that I should be able to replace the Intel 3D AGP integrated video, because it was an AGP card.    Needless to say, I had to turn to other sources to get my questions answered.

hey

I checked out the sudhian article, its very informative. But anyway , I dont want to spend more dollars going for a video card, which will not show me much of a differnece. If I could some how upgrade to AGP I would think my money would be well worth spending, but Upgrading to a PCI card, nahh...not from PCI to PCI, I'll live with the FX5200... I don't understand how dell doesnt put a freaking AGP slot in their machine... it should be common...not a very happy customer, and to be honest, tech support are such liars, they told me I couldnt install a video in the first place, cuz that integrated one is already there, and thats the only one I could use. Only after research did I find out, I could replace the intergrated one.... dont recommend Dell to anyone, build ur own computer..ur much better off...

You CANNOT acquire an AGP slot unless you change out your motherboard! IT CANNOT BE DONE! Unless you already have one, you wont be getting one, plain and simple. Its not dells fault, you should have purchased a higher quality computer with an included AGP graphics port at the time, do your homework, and research before buying, believe me it will make you a much happier customer. And the reason they told you that you cant change onboard video cards are becasue they dont want you to void your warranty, because when you do, and you need help from dell......well....you arent going to get it. The only real thing you can do for your computer is get that better PCI card, otherwise you arent going to be able to do anything, as a motherboard switch wont help/ not possible, and you dont have an AGP slot which also isnt possible to get.

Your accusations on dell's supposed "lack of service" towards you are rather unfounded and in the end, are all your fault, from your lack of product research before delegating the decision of buying or not!

Dell needs to educate their sales reps. I bought a 2400 and didn't order premium video because I already have a card, which I mentioned to the sales rep. Nothing was said about not having an AGP slot. Further, I ordered the gigabit ethernet after the sales rep assured me it was on the MB, not a PCI device. It wasn't so I lost a PCI slot. Finally, when shipped, I received a 2.2  - 400 rather than the 2.4 - 533 that I ordered. They gave me a discount on the last issue, but still, a VERY unsatisfactory buying experience. I will not buy another Dell.

In reply to mloot, Yea it is under warranty however....computer companies and other companies in general dont want people to go in the computer case theirselves and change stuff around.....because then they come back the next day and complain that it just "suddenly" broke, and then they must get you a new "whatever" or replace something which they have to pay for. People break things and then lie and say dell sent them somethign defective, shoot id do the same thing! If i can con dell into paying for my mistake why not! But im not saying that you shouldnt mod things inside your computer, I do it all the time.....so do whatever. But your stuck dude...yuo cant add AGP....end of story

Omaleem. Sad to say, this is all part of the computer learning experience. Live and learn. One bit of advice. If you have a question about a purchase of computers, CPU,s, video cards, memory etc...Simply ask the forums. There is a WEALTH of knowledge here. Sorry you got the short end of this stick.

Well yeah that's true. I didnt know the difference between AGP & PCI. And I didnt know Dimension 2000 Series are the most cra**iest computers ever. No wonder they're so cheap. Anyway, yeah I finally got a new motherboard and I dont know I just thought an AGP was a pretty normal thing and it would be included in the computer. I noticed Dell Dimension 2000 series is pretty UN-upgradable. Can't even put a 2nd harddrive. Well, you can, only that you need to fight with the customer service, and listen to their sales pitches of getting you to buy a harddrive with it. Are they on commission...........?

Also... there is a possibility of an upgrade to a motherboard with a AGP slot in it. Do your research and then tell people what is possible and what is IMpossible.
