Upgrading Dell Studio XPS 435MT

I'd like to know what the best upgrades for it would be and which ones are the most budget friendly ($100 range total.) You may list all the upgrades but I'm thinking of just upgrading the video card and/or memory specifically for better gaming (not too hardcore, I play a couple of games like Skyrim and MMOs) and drawing (I draw in high resolutions.)
I'd also like to point out that I recently bought a laptop that is faster than this desktop and maybe I should just sell the desktop if it can't be too much better than the laptop. Here are the specs...

Right now, I'm leaning toward selling it or giving it away to a friend if it can't be sold for much. But if I can get it upgraded to a beastly status without spending too much, then I might keep it. I'm new to upgrading and couldn't find the 435MT in the web page where I can find compatible upgrades for it, that's why I'm here. Please help, thanks. :)

100 USD is very little to upgrade. If you change just video card for similar latest generation say SAPPHIRE HD 7750 1GB already $110, it would not require upgrading power supply. Which windows you have, and is it 32 bit or 64 bit? Your memory is very small, if you have 64 bit Windows, however processor is still good, yes it is slower than your laptop, but RAM (memory) also counts, and Operating System? However your laptop would be difficult to upgrade for video card, if at all! Integrated video card in laptop would not allow you to play any serious games without lag and video issues.
Here little comparison for Skyrim only.
XPS 435 with addition of only Sapphire 7750 would allow you to play at Very High/Extremely High, however your memory is on the low side, if you have 64 bit OS upgrading memory is a must.
Laptop the way it is - Low / Medium settings. So Do you like to play your games with good video quality, or you don't care?

So, if it would be me, if your XPS has 64 bit windows - I would keep it, upgrade video card and memory, spend definitely more than $100. If you have only 32 bit, I would think about it, but is is still possible and most likely would be more enjoyable than laptop play quality.

The ram is fine but should be installed in pairs. You cant have an odd number of matched dimms.
Dell Studio XPS 435 Desktop/PC can use 24 gigs max aka 6 X 4 GIG.
Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 24GB
Slots: 6
How much memory your Windows OS will recognize depends on which version of Windows you are running. 32-bit versions of Windows will see (and utilize) only 3GB or 3.5GB. To utilize more memory, install a 64-bit version of your OS.

My computers are 64-bit and the 435MT is on Windows 7. I'm not a huge gamer and I play spontaneously. That's why I'm apt to sell it. I don't really care that I'm playing on medium settings but I want to make room for the future. Games get better and the laptop might not be able to play those games that I'll take a liking on.
Anyway, $110 for that card? Sounds like a good card. I'm assuming that's compatible with the CPU? And yes, more ram is on my list. Probably just match it with my laptop at 8gb.
How about this - tell me the exact upgrades you would put if this CPU was yours but you must limit your spending. I might just do it. ;P And if it gets too much but for more than a fair price, I suppose I can wait a while to upgrade it. If this CPU is capable, then I won't get rid of it. The urgency of my post is mostly because I don't want its value to diminish if I should sell it.

Other than Radeon 7750 for an XPS 435 Desktop I wouldn't add anything. 7750 works with XP, VISTA, WIN7, WIN8 and is directx 11.
HOWEVER
You cannot upgrade the video on a Inspiron 15R Notebook (Inspiron 5520)
Intel HD 4000 is not a radeon hd and quite slow with games.

Is this card different from the $110? I did some research on one of the best but cheapest and I suppose kisianik suggested right.
If I get the card kisianik suggested, that's $110. And I won't need to replace/add a cooling system or power adapter if I get that, correct? Then for the ram, any kind will work? Would this be compatible?

Then once I get those upgrades, how long would the desktop last me before it's no longer worth keeping? Yea... I know I'm very late in upgrading this 3-4 year old desktop. xP

Intel HD 4000 is marginal for games, but it's a lot better than a 4350.

Sapphire 7750 which is $109.99 (110) is the one I meant, I know that SpeedStep and rdunnill will agree with this. Next is memory.

However it was reported that in most instances BIOS slowing down memory to 1066MHz speed, also official maximum size of RAM (memory) is 12GB, however I found a post with 24 GB confirmation and BIOS recognition of 1333MHz speed. If you desire this memory can go up to 24 GB!

My memory choice is twice cheaper, SpeedStep is the BEST non Dell advisor here, my speciality is to upgrade Dells beyond recommended (by Dell) setups.

You mean cheap as in your first recommendation of 8 gb of ram? The 24 gb is overkill. I'd have to do better with my drawing and design to ever need that much memory. Haha. I'm 21, btw.
And ah. Well thanks for both your help. Glad that Dell's forum has helpful active members. I think I can buy these two items in mid February. That's about $162 and comparable to a... XPS 8500? If I upgrade the hard drive too. But I have an external hd already. xP
As a forewarning, I'll complain to both of you if it doesn't match or if it'll need some prerequisites. Lol.

My choice of RAM is twice cheaper per 2 sticks of 4 GB each, for the price of Crucial you can get 16 GB of Kingston, usually we recommend Crucial, but this Kingston was reported working by a user! You mention XPS 8500? What you mean? Serious graphic programs require a lot of memory, much more than gaming!
