Hey guys I have been having a few issues with Optiplex 780's and 760's over the past few months. The computers that are having the issues have dual monitors using the on board VGA for 1 and the Dell DVI adapter for the other on monitor. Currently if the computer goes to sleep and then is woken up only the VGA monitor responds, to fix it i have to restart the machine. Another issues arrises where users will not be using their computer for a little while and then they will find that all of their open windows have moved to the VGA monitor and none are on the DVI. I am having these issues on multiple computers running both XP and Win7.
Any suggestions it really starting to frustrate me and some of my users.
On every wakeup, you have to go into the video card settings and re-initialize the dual monitor setup. The addin DVI card is not a true video card, it is simply a passthrough device between the attached DVI display and the integrated video. A true video card would have the drivers necessary to wake itself up.
I have the same issue. How do I re-initialize? The second display is not listed at all. The only way I have found is to reboot. I tried updating the driver but that only worked after the restart and now the same problem.
We have at least 12 OptiPlex 780 with the same issue (including my own PC) and the DVI adapter card is NOT the issue as we have plugged the DVI directly onto the MB by using the display port connection.
The systems will not recognize that the DVI LCD even exists
We have installed the latest BIOS - A09
We have installed the latest Intel drivers
We have patched the PC's with all MS Updates
We have installed the monitor drivers for both LCD's
Having spent a great deal of time over the past 10 years troubleshooting video card issues I suspect this is an issue with the Intel Graphics drivers or Intel Chipset drivers for the PCI express bus.
Installing an add-in card, such as one from ATI, with 2 connections is a temporary work-around which costs additional money and is NOT a solution.
We had a similar issue where after the monitors would enter sleep mode, only the VGA connected monitor would wake. I was able to fix the issue by downloading the video driver directly from Intel. The issue surfaced after running the workstations for a few weeks so I am not sure what triggered the problem, I assume a windows update initiated the problem. It has been several months now and the issue has not resurfaced.
