Want to upgrade an E510

I'm looking to upgrade an E510 for someone who does some gaming.  His current hardware:

Dell E510 1.5MB RAM

Dell 1707 LCD (I'm not sure of native resolution or resolution that games are run at.)

RAEDON X600 256MB video card.

What would a good video card for this system be?  It has a 305W PSU and I don't really want to change it as I live elsewhere.

The system obviously can't make full use of the most recent cards.

I'll bump the memory to 3GB.  By the way, at newegg I searched for PC2-4200 RAM and it brought up PC2 6400 RAM.  Is all DDR2 memory backward compatible to whatever the system can use?

Also, can the CPU of the E510's be upgraded?

Thanks!

There are two good cards that can run in that machine, they are the ATI HD 4550 and the nVidia 8600gt, your PSU can run any of these cards. I have the same PSU as you. As for your ram it is,  400-MHz and 533-MHz DDR2 unbuffered SDRAM. You did not say what MHZ your CPU is, however, if you have an old machine you might find that you cant upgrade to duel core cpu. You can find your manual with the link below,
