Will this work?

Jump to solution

Okay so I have a dell Inspiron 531 and I want to upgrade its graphics card, I've currently got the hd 2600 xt and have read that the hd 6670 is one of the best I can get on my 300w psu, in some posts people say it will work without a PCIe cable and some say it won't. My psu is the standard and does not have a PCIe cable. So my question is will a hd 6670 work without a PCIe cable.

Also I'd I was to upgrade my psu what would work and fit in my 531 case and work with my motherboard (dell use a custom motherboard)

Many Thanks, Nathan

6570, 6670, 7750 do not have AUX power and only use 75W.  The Specific Sappire 11202-10-20G card fits in all dell Models because its not 2 Slots wide.  NOT ALL 6670 or 7750 cards are made with this in mind.

7770 and up REQUIRE 550W or greater power supply with Aux power connection.

6570, 6670, 7750 do not need more than 305w power supply and work fine.  Only certain models fit into the case physically. 2X Wide cards that are 12 inches long will not fit.

Thanks for the reply, Just to confirm my psu doesn't' have a connection for a PCIe cable from the psu, just the slot where it goes into the motherboard, is this enough to power the card?

I'm skeptical because I spent £60 on a new card and it needed a PCIe cable slot. Hopefully getting my money back on that though.
