Windows XP Pro or Vista Ultimate x64 - No install unless it's a DELL OS?

[rant]

Well, I've come to the realization that unless you have a Dell OS disc with a 64-bit OS, you can forget installing a 64-bit OS on your system. I've tried countless times with no luck whatsoever. It doesn't even begin to load the Windows setup files but instead, loads some Caldera DR-DOS poo that tries accessing your A drive.

Can you tell I'm just a little P-I double crooked letter'd off? This is nonsense. They didn't ship the x64 OS and seemed to have made it to where you can't install a different OS unless you get it from them.

[/rant]

If anyone has a workaround for this, I'd love to hear it!

Re: Windows XP Pro x64 - No install unless it's a DELL OS

I've never had issues loading (MSDN) ISOs or retail copies of OSes on Dell systems.

I just do the one-time boot option to CD and it starts loading my Vista x64 or XP x64 MSDN CD/DVD and starts the OS install.

The DR-DOS sounds like maybe either the diagnostics partition Dell ships (not sure which dos version this is, but DR-DOS is possible), or you have an incorrect ISO/media.

Sorry to burst your bubble but your statement is not correct. I installed on mine with an OEM disk, and know of at least 5 others who have as well. If your not using a MS or dell disk then perhaps your disk is not fully a 64  bit disk.

What gives then? I obtained my copy from an individual who uses it on his own pc, yet it won't boot to disc. Smiley Indifferent

I tested that disc before I sent it too, was able to boot to it on my system no problems.

So you've tried both x64 Vista and x64 XP with no luck...  dvd drive problem maybe?

@Davet50, nope... direct copy of the Dell x64 Ult disc.  Ph3N0M's x86 Vista Ultimate code should have worked for the new x64 install.

They must be hacked disks.

"I obtained my copy from an individual who uses it on his own pc"

Then maybe you should try a legitimate (and legal) purchased copy.

It doesn't matter whether it's a purchased copy or not. It's a rip, directly from the OEM disc. Like Gruffly said, it's a direct copy from his Vista Ultimate x64 disc, so my key should've worked just fine.

Well there is something wrong with his disk. And you cannot use YOUR KEY with it that is illegal
