Would a GeForce GTX770 be compatible with my Dell XPS 8700?
Currently I have a GTX660 in my desktop, and although I realize I'd have to upgrade the psu, would it work? Would it even fit?

Not sure if you upgraded but I did it myself with upgrading the PSU to Corsair MX 750 and GeForce GTX 770 with no problems. The PSU is a bit longer but just push the cabling for the sound/usb connection and the PSU will fit. The cabling for the mother board (12V) can also be split into a 4-pin for connection.
Dell XPS 8700
16GB - RAM
250GB Samsung SSD
GeForce GTX 770 2GB
PSU - Corsair MX 750
