XPS 18 - wake from Bluetooth keyboard or mouse

I am posting under "desktop" about my new XPS 18 as it was sold as an all in one.

I would like to be able to wake from sleep using the supplied Bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse and wonder if this is possible? I expected this would be default behaviour as it typically is with a wired keyboard and mouse. Presently I press the power button on the screen, but if the screen is over the other side of the room this is less convenient.

Have been following thread because I have a new XPS 18 (BIOS A04) whichwill not wake wirelessly.  The following has enabled mouse and keyboard to enable, but it requires disabling the Rapid Start Technology, so with every reboot I am plagued with a notice that the RST is disabled.

Suggest:

First go to BIOs > Advanced > Intel Rapid Start Technology > disable.  Then USB wake support will appear on same tab.  Enable USB Wake Support. Save & reboot

Second: Control Panel > Mouse > Hardware > HID-Compliant Mouse Properties > Change Settings > Power Management > Check box that says "Allow this device to wake the computer"

Third (and finally) repeat the sequence for the keyboard

Is there any mechanism to get help with this? I have looked through the device manager and control panel to check for any relevant settings.

Hi jcsbanks,

I would advise that you right click on the keyboard and mouse installed on your computer which you will find under ‘keyboards’ and ‘Mice and other pointing device’ in the device manager. There you should find the ‘Power management’. Where you will be able to setup "Allow this device to wake the computer"

Please let me know if this helps.

There is no power management tab for these two devices, only general, driver, details, events. None of these have any power management options.

Hi jcsbanks,

I would advise you to enable the ‘USB Wake Support’ in the BIOS and then find the ‘Power management’ under Keyboard and mouse in device manager. Where you will be able to setup "Allow this device to wake the computer"

Thanks. I do not see that option in the UEFI. If it is present could you tell me where to find it? I use vol down and power to get to UEFI, I just cannot find this option.

Hi jcsbanks,

I am sorry for the delayed response. I would suggest you to reinstall the keyboard and mouse application from the link below to check for issue resolution.

Thanks, I've done that. Nothing has changed, no other options appear. I attempted to upgrade the firmware of the keyboard and mouse using the downloaded utility, but it failed at the point of trying to pair with the keyboard or mouse (which still work). I also checked Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless Bluetooth(R) 4.0 + High Speed Adapter in device manager and the option "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" was enabled, disabling it didn't make any difference. The option below it was greyed out and disabled "allow this device to wake the computer".

Would it therefore appear that the Bluetooth controller or driver for it doesn't have the ability to wake the computer?

Can you advise if wake from Bluetooth keyboard or mouse is a feature of the XPS 18?

Hi  jcsbanks,

I would suggest you to open the ‘Dell Unifying Software’ application installed and check if you find the option of USB wake.

Please let me know if this helps.

I cannot find USB wake support in any of the menus or submenus of the BIOS. I have reverted to UEFI with no changes to be able to boot the system again. It looks like you are advising me based on another system. Is there a product specialist for the XPS 18 that you can upgrade this request to? Is it possible we are chasing an unavailable feature?

jcsbanks,

If you disable Intel Rapid Start Technology feature in bios setup (Advanced tab), the USB Wake Support option will appear for you to Enable.

Are you aware of Hybrid Sleep and Hibernation waking procedures in Windows 8? The keyboard or mouse will not wake  the computer when it is in Hybrid Sleep or Hibernation. It requires a brief press of the power button to wake the computer. You can change some settings in Power Options.
