XPS 2720 audio out options and set up?
Recently purchased XPS 2720 and while i have it set up with HDMI out to TV which is working for the video/audio, I am wondering how to do a secondary audio out for when I am playing music. I have the hdmi from the PC to the receiver and then from the receiver to the TV.
with my past PC and this same set up, I was able to do SPDIF audio out to the receiver.
So, sorry if this sounds strange, but what are my options? I purchased SYBA Multimedia USB Stereo Sound Adapter - Envy VT1620A - USB - External so i could plug into USB but can't get sound.
I plugged in a 3.5 to the audio out on the side panel (tried a 3.5 to optical out)..no sound.
Any ideas?? Am I just missing a set up within the settings to identify the audio out????
And lastly, I am hoping I can keep the hdmi set up and playing the audio for videos as default, but add the addition of another audio out when playing music.. thought with this multi media beast it would be piece of cake!!
thanks!

Hi darengibo,
It is possible to receive output from speakers and an HDMI device simultaneously to play audio from a single application at the same time. Check this article for more details. This article is for Windows 7 but you can try it with Windows 8 as well.

Thanks for the reply. I am continuing to have issues getting the system set up with external speakers.
I have no issues with audio via HDMI, but the receiver has to be set to have video out to TV and TV has to be on.
What I am wanting is to have an option of playing the external speakers (5.1 receiver) when playing music and not relying on the HDMI.

Oh, and i went through the steps outlined above (getting audio out from HDMI and speakers) and it caused a lot of feedback/reverb from the monitor speakers.
I have tried YBA Multimedia USB Stereo Sound Adapter - Envy VT1620A - USB - External so i could plug into USB but still can't get the system to even recognize it..
SO is the only option I have to have audio via receiver (not via the HDMI) just to use the auxiliary out jack?
i love this PC, but do miss the SPDIF audio out i had on previous HP PC
Thanks!

Hi darengibo,
As of now I recommended using the temporary workaround (viz. use the auxiliary out jack) and wait in the forum for some other user to respond who has found a fix.

Thanks for the reply.
Can you look at this product and do you know if it is an option via USB?

Hi darengibo,
This device is a substitute for an internal Audio Card in case your computer doesn’t have an audio card. If you use a USB headphone it gives you a similar experience as this device except for some enhancements peculiar to this device. I use a Jabra Halo 2 USB *** Bluetooth Headphones and it works in a similar way. This device in my opinion will not be able to provide you a dual output (I haven’t tried it). A little clarification about how the USB Audio devices work might help here. When the USB audio device is plugged in, the computer sees the USB Audio Device as a USB sound card. So when you plug the "sound card" (USB Audio Device) in, Windows makes it the default device. However, any program that is running at the time you plugged it in may still be using the "old device" (the Internal Sound Card) if you close and re-open the programs, the programs will recognize the USB Audio Device and now the Internal Audio Card will be disabled.
Please reply if you have any further queries.

I have another question.. thought it would be more simple. My wife wanted to use headphones to hear a webex, however, plugging them in did nothing.. audio kept going through speakers.

Hi darengibo,
You must restore the audio settings back to defaults (if you made the changes suggested on my reply dated Thu, Sep 12).
