XPS 410 processor upgrade

hello,

I have an aging XPS 410 which i have recently upgraded with an ATI 6870 and a bigger PSU rated at 600 watts.

I want to also upgrade the processor but found out that socket 775 on this machine is limited to CPU rated at 1066.

Would a E7600 series work on this?  or am I limited to a Q6600 or E6800?my current cpu is the 6420, would I see a difference?

Thanks much for helping me see what the limits are.

The XPS410/9200 supports 65nm processors, the E7600 is a 45nm processor and is not supported.

You can find a list of compatible processors for the XPS 410 in a post by Chris M HERE

Prior to installing the processor, you need to upgrade the BIOS to the latest version, 2.5.3, because with version 2.5.1, new CPU Support was added.

Note: The Core 2 Quad Q6700, is not listed, but is compatible.

Thanks for the reply, I know is a old system, but still is working great.

So, the key specifications that I need to look for is the nm#, which is the socket type, right? the cpu in my machine is the Intel R Core 2 CPU 6320 @ 1.86 GHz, is 65nm, so, do I need to look only for 65nm cpu?.

Thanks.

No, it is not the Socket, it is the 'Lithography' process.

Thank you for the well informed answer.

I found out that the E6800 available for sale is mostly availablein 45nm from the wolfdale series 9from what the sellers advertise).

In the end, the headache to find a 65nm and the lack of increase in performance do not justify the cost. I'll be better off waiting and getting a more current model.

Happy to have helped.

Yep, the older processors can be hard to locate.

My system:

Dell Dimension DXP061

Intel R Core 2 CPU

6320 @ 1.86 GHz

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me to find out if this cpu would work on my xps 410,

this is the new cpu that I want to buy.

I looked that list of cpu that are good for xps 410 that you posted before, but I can't find anything with those specifications, like this one: PU963 Presler PD 935, 3.20G, 2X2MB, 800FSB, D0.

Thanks in advance.

No.

The Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E8500 3.16GHz 1333MHz 6MB LGA775, it is a 45nm processor.

Okay, is working great, I updated from:

dell xps 410

Intel R Core 2 CPU 6320 @ 1.86 GHz

to

Intel Cpu Core 2 Quad Q6600

Applying the Artic Silver compound was so simple, I was looking on youtube about applying the compound, and it was like the Babel Tower, so,,,,,I went to the Artic Silver 5 compund web site, and they shows how to apply the compound to AMD or Intel CPU'S, because depends where the cores are in the cpu, make sense.

Now, I wonder if someone can give me an specific link for a cpu above 3.0 GHz for this same machine, just wondering, how much wopuld cost.

Thanks Bev, for your help.
