It seems to work fine for me under Win XP Pro.
I guess that the Intel matrix storage works as a couple with the chipset software, and updating one, need to update the other.

The last chipset software from intel was released 6 month after the chipset soft. porposed by dell.

I'm having the exact same problem....... in in the UK have the XPS 420 running 2 x 500GB Samsung drives.
Only had the XPS for about 6 - 8 weeks, tech guy on phone just got me to carry out a diag test, after speaking on the phone for 1 hour ...... this is ridiculous, the amount of people having this problem and still no definitive answer??
After carrying out a 10+ hour diagnostics on my machine .... and it showing nothing, I was issued a new mobo and two new hdd's .... should be here this week !
Looks like I have the same RAID problems as everyone else with the XPS 420. Started with a Port 0 HDD failure. Then both Port 0 & Port 1 HDD failures. Reset CMOS and the failure switched to a Port 1 HDD failure. Set the Port 1 HDD to normal in Intel Matrix storage Console the drive rebuilt and starting working again only to have the same problem happen again.
Worked with Sell support on two occasions. Discussed swapping in two new hard drive with Dell, but according to the form this does not seem to be a fix either. Have updated all drivers and BIOS, same issues.
The problem is identified on several message threads in these forums as ID's below.
Since this seems to be a widespread problem "Where is DELL's Response/Comments." If they are working the issue I would be adapt to stay with the current confg or even the with XPS 420 a little longer.
DELL - Looks like a lot of customers are unhappy with your product as noted is the above listed message threads. Any comments? Suggestions? Resolution?
