I had to post this link here and on the fan issue thread; it is from the gaming forum:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_certified_products.html
Its the Enthusiast System Architecture page on nVidia, describing what produsts are "ESA Certified." At the top of the page under systems it lists the XPS 630 and 730. Under supported motherboards the lowest number it lists is the nForce 780i SLI.
If you click on the 630 link and then go to the tech specs, it says, as others have pointed out, that the 630 has a 650i SLI.
I find it interesting that links on nVidia's site take to places on Dell's site that contradict what the nVidia site says about the XPS 630, especially in view of all the problems people are having. On the ESA Overview page, there is another link for the XPS 630 on Dell's site; the 630 is described as ESA-certified.
I am afraid to mess with the nVidia panel at all.

This is what I got today.
There is new firmware and NVPerformance software in the works. A fix has been identified. We just need to work out the logistics to get a release out. We have no ETA to report.

All I got was what I posted. I do not have any of the details.

Fair enough.
At least we know what to expect in the way of resolution.
Does the NVPerfomance software address the LightFX 2.0? Or is it more along the lines of stable profiles and adjustments to fan speeds and "basic" light settings?

Thank You Chris_M . We all appreciate the update on this. However I am still waiting for the Offical Statement from Legal and PR. I am anxious to see what they have to say and how they justify selling me something that doesn't work and then telling me " we will fix it when we get around to it. "
Also, has anybody else tried calling XPS Customer Service? I have been trying for days to speak to somebody there and every time I call, I get a rep on the line who will only say, " Our systems are unavailable call back later " then they hang up on me. It's not a recording, its a real person ever time. This is not the 4th day in a row I get that. Anybody else?

Accusations???
I hardly think that the issues here are accusations. These are rock solid problems that DO exist on every single xps 630 that Dell shipped. In addition, this issue in not solely being talked about on this board. It makes little difference that Dell would like to silence these issues here. There are currently people looking at Dell's actions regarding these issues that have a lot more power than complaining board members. Fix or no fix, the time limit for an amicable solution has come and gone.
Dell may be able to sweep some of this under the rug by blaming software for the ESA issue, however the fact remains that Light FX 2.0 was knowingly falsely advertised. In addition, ESA compatibility was advertised to myself and thousands of others at the time of sale. Not one of us received ESA compatibility at the time of sale.
The next few months should be loads of fun for Dell. A sagging economy combined with even more bad press coming on the heels of your recent NY embarassment should do wonders for sales.

THANK YOU for the update Chris. Your simple statement that they have found a fix and are working on logistics is what many of us wanted to hear. Obviously, it remains to be seen if they follow up on this in a timely manner.
What alot of us want are updates on their progress. You gave us one. Keep it up!
Another thing, LightFX2 was advertised and we didn't get it with our systems. What we got was Dell's version of light control that uses nVidia's software to program. It is difficult to program for most people, but that is not Dell's fault. My lights work fine, and I am happy with that feature, but it isn't LightFX2.
ESA compatibility is another matter. The system is not 100% ESA compatible. Some things work and some things do not. What I paid for was an ESA certified system where I can adjust all the fans, save profiles, access the bios, etc. I did not get that. But if Dell can fix these issues in a timely manner, I may actually purchase another Dell and tell my friends to do so as well. BUT this is highly conditional, based on how Dell follows up on these issues, and how timely the follow-up is.
Technical support from Dell has been awful. I mean extremely awful. The techs that we have to talk to on the phone (the XPS certified ones) have no idea how to help us with even the smallest issue. They do not even seem to be aware that there are issues with these machines (not that they could do anything about it anyway). Dell really needs to improve technical support. Tech support was why I purchased my first Dell way back in the early 90's. Now, tech support is a potential reason that I would not buy another Dell. That is a huge change, and very disappointing.
Chris, you want to see some happy people? Convince an engineer to make a post or two about what they are doing to fix these problems. I know that it would make me feel much more secure (for lack of a better term) to hear from an engineer that "everything is going to be OK". :)
Again Chris, your update was a very welcome post. Thank you. But I want to hear from an engineer directly about what they are doing, how it is going, and an anticipated time frame for these fixes.

Get this all. I was just told by a rep at Dell Customer Care that Dell is not responsible for any of this and its my fault for not sending this back with my 21 days. If I'm not happy with Dell not delivering Full ESA and LightFX 2.0 on this machine, I have to buy a new one. Dell is not responsible for false adverstising, its MY fault for not sending it back.

Can you tell us which issues will be addressed in this upcoming fix? The XPS 630i issues I am aware of are...
- Fans running at 100% (hairdryer effect)
- Not able to control the fans with the sliders
- True ESA
- Flashing HD indicator light
- LightFX 2.0 MIA
Feel free to add others if I missed any.
I think it would be helpful to know in advance so there isn't disappointment when the fix comes and a particular issue is not addressed.
Hopefully they all are.
