I bought one for $350 from Micro Center and found out I couldn't use it so I sold it to my friend for pretty much the same.  I will probably borrow it from him to see if I can run it on the A06...

Just click the arrow up to the right.... that'll move the thread up for you until you are ready to move it down again.... at that time hit the arrow down.

Peace

Can someone with more info on these procs give some insight as why they are different?

Bios A06 added support for the Quad Core Yorkfield 9300/9450 but not the 9550.

Nice , this processor upgrade possibility ( although QX9650 not there yet as in my XPS420 ) .

For me would have been much nicer the sound problem being resolved and that would have been an urgent upgrade . ( am using vista32 and onboard sigmahell sound and when upgrading the 2x 8600 GTS ( as the XPS720 came with ) into 2 x 8800 GT ( bought at dell to be sure nothing goes wrong ) , get clicks and distorted sound now , am in meantime again editing video ( with sound ) on my medions.

Gosh .....

That is fine Chris but this don't make it an urgent update.  95% of us will most likely never update to one of those chips anyway.  Urgent should mean you need this NOW to keep your computer working right.  Dell needs to get their head out of the sand, the sky is NOT falling and get their termonology right.

Well thats nice but still leaves us out in the dark as to overclocking..no way am i going to use that crummy ntune program..

We got the Good processors support

No lets open the bios to take full advantage.

This would really add some life to the 720 platform..

* They always state urgent. I have asked them to change this.

Now lets open the bios to take full advantage.
* I doubt we would ever do this on any XPS. We will leave that up to the Dell/Alienware line of PCs.

I agree with cademetz, thats awesome news!!!

I will have a Q9450 in hand on thursday, and verify support Thursday evening. And then will have a Q9450 for sale for anyone interested.

On another note, I wish we could keep the negativity out of this deal. Quite frankly, if I was Dell, I wouldn't do it, with a new model(730) right around the corner. I wouldn't update the 720 at all. They chose to do so, I think thats awesome!!!

    GREAT JOB DELL
