XPS 720 BIOS

Jump to solution

I've recently had to reinstall my Windows XP operating system (I plan on upgrading to Windows 7 by March 2014), and need to know what the latest BIOS version is that I should be running.  I am currently on A6, but prior to reinstalling the operating system, I seem to remember I had upgraded the BIOS to A11.  I'm having some trouble with the system being slower than usual, and the USB ports are not being identified.  Everywhere I search for a solution to these and other issues I am experiencing seems to suggest that my BIOS needs to be upgraded, but I know that upgrading to an improper version can be hazardous.

What is the latest BIOS version that I should be running?  And where do I find it to download & install?

So far as I can tell, A06 is the most recent BIOS version available.

Did you install the drivers for your computer once you finished installing Windows XP?  You can download the necessary files at this page:  XPS 720 Support.  Click on the Drivers and Downloads page, making certain that the correct operating system is shown.  It defaults to Windows XP for me, but you may find something different.

The Desktop System Software and the nVidia Chipset Driver need to be installed first and in the order given.  Dell recommends that these files be followed by the drivers for Video, Network Interface Adapter, and Sound Adapter due to the nature of the resources required for these devices.  Any remaining drivers may be installed in the order of your choosing.  You will find the Desktop System Software in System Utilities.

The 720 will run win 7 x64 just fine. I had it on mine from the initial release until the retail version. Most of the drivers were delivered in the OS and any missing ones will work with vista drivers.
