XPS 730 BIOS Issue

Newbie to the forum here...

Had a number of small issues with the XPS after months of trouble free use (including excessive fan noise etc). Thought that updating the bios from version 1.04 to 1.05 would assist me in getting to the bottom of some of these issues...

Midway through the firmware upgrade, screen goes blank, system reboots and it comes up with error messages saying it doesn't recognise keyboard etc and wants to boot from "A" Drive (I never ordered a floppy drive with the system)

I am not panicing yet as clearly the system is trying to find where the BIOS is, however anybody got a definate work around? Do I need to go and buy a floppy drive? Is there some special keystroke I can do on startup to initialise the original BIOS (1.04)?

Any help much appreciated!

Hello Helipeper and welcome to the Dell forums.

You have either expericence a bad bios update or might just need to reset your CMOS settings.

Now if your bios update went bad then the only remedy is a new motherboard.

So my suggestion would be to try a CMOS reset. as per HERE.

If that fails and you are still under warranty then a call to Tech support is in order.
