XPS 730 Overclock settings

Hopefully some one has already done this and the answer is straight forward.

I am to be take delivary of my new xps 730 soon, (fingers crossed) and am wanting to install 64 bit.

I have done this before with my 720 so that in itself is not an issue. However, with the 730 being factory overclocked (Q9650), i am interested to know how the settings are stored for the overclock.

I would hope this is done via bios and therefore my upgrade to 64 bit will cause no issues.

If not and the overclock is soley done via ntune, is there a way to back up the settings before upgrading to 64 bit so they can then be restored after.

To sum up, will the overclock settings be kept with a freash os install from 32bit to 64 bit?

Thanks for any input.

Hey Nudimensionz.

I have a 703 H2C, QX9650 OC 3.67 by Dell, which came with Windows 32 vista ultimate.  I asked Dell for the 64 bit disc, which the sent to me overnight next day delivery.

I did write down all the settings from the BIOS, of which I think that the multipier 11 was the most important information, but I did write it all down just in case.  I put the 64 bit CD into the drive and did a clean install, which I was told was required when upgrading from the 32 bit system.  Was the quickest install I have ever done on Windows, thanks to the QX9650 and Corsair Dominator RAM.

My sytem kept the factory installed OC settings after the upgrade to 64 bit.  After the upgrade I increased the RAM to 8 GB and the system flies.  You will be very happy.  So, I can tell you that my system OC from Dell was in the BIOS and was not affected by the 64 bit upgrade.  Yours should be the same, but copy the BIOS settings to be safe.

After upgrading to 64 bit I did flash the BIOS to A05 and the OC was maintained.

Wish you all the best with your system
