XPS 8300... Who has one of these bad boyz?

What I want to know are the people who like myself got this mystified machine and are now being asked to send it back for a fix or a refund. I just want to hear others who  can relate with  me? I know that ain't always ez but shoot . would just like to hear from other's who got lucky enough to get one of these in their hands. My experience so far has been this is one nice execution. The new smell of lead that permeates  my office.  motivates me. There are no reviews  out for the xps 8300 or their components. I want to hear what you guys experience has been. So far so good. Love the smell of lead burning in the morning. Bottom line you got these great PC that nobody else will have in awhile. What's the verdict?

Hmmm first one I've read that is "exactly" the problem I have been having.... (since upgrading the drivers for the HD5770) So they had you COMPLETELY FACTORY RESTORE?  I am HORRIFIED!  what? this is my first experience with a dell and one that put me out quite a bit of $$$ so I am quite disappointed  with all this... I have had mine since last spring and from the above comments it looks like some returned them because of the sandy bridge mother board thing... I wonder if I got one of those??? anyway I am worn out going around in circles installing failing updates with still no success...

Wow - I've had my 8300 since the first week they came out. Ran into the ATI problem in the first couple of days, after updating the driver. After going around and around with technical support, I did a full factory reinstall, and have never dared update the ATI driver again. I can't believe Dell hasn't fixed this problem yet. They just don't care anymore, do they?

Looking at buying XPS 8300. Can (or should) I avoid these ATI issues by choosing the Nvidia video card ?

I downgraded the driver and so far its been 8 hours without a freeze.

Do not use the one from the Microsoft Windows Update or ATI site.  Use the dell driver from support.dell.com

Hi jona187,

Great to hear that the downgrade works for you. I have been using the latest drivers from ATI with great success but in order to get the newer ones to work well, I recommended that you uninstall the previous drivers and use driver sweeper prior to re-installing in order to ensure all previous remnants are removed. I agree that the one that comes down via Microsoft updates is a dog and should be avoided.
