XPS 8300 Windows 10 Broadcom network adapter disconnect FIXED

On my XPS 8300, after upgrading to Windows 10, the network would just stop working after a while (seemingly after some network load, but was never able to pinpoint it).  Restarting the PC would enable the network, but then it would eventually disconnect again, sometimes in as little as 5 minutes.

So I tried installing the Win7 network driver from Dell's site, and I no longer get disconnected.  Search for "R282233", or just download the file from this link.

http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=NDC29

Dell writes that Win10 is not supported on the XPS 8300, but after fixing this network problem, I don't have any other issues.

EDIT 2015-08-30

Let me try to summarize this thread so far.

Installing R282233 (14.2.0.7) fixed the disconnect problem for 11 people:
- shu
- ClutchRaider
- Ickabod
- digitalexplr
- JohnGosselin
- tj_moore
- Mr.JASmith
- digger1978
- rrao
- RunsLikeDell
- andpen

It did not fix it for 2 people:
- sig94nl
- miami3170

tj_moore and RunsLikeDell reported that just running the installer did not actually change the driver version. They had to first uninstall the previous drivers and all Broadcom software, or even that wasn't enough and had to select the "Repair" option in the Broadcom install package, as opposed to the "Modify" option.

I personally just ran the installer without doing anything special, and it did change the driver to 14.2.0.7. I assume most people did too. I don't know what the difference is, perhaps doing a clean install of Windows 10 helped.

Mr.JASmith reported that both 17.2.0.0 and 15.6.1.2 did not work for his XPS 8000. RunsLikeDell also reported 15.6.1.2 did not work for the XPS 8000.

But in another thread, MikeZ and B23x say 17.2.0.0 does work for the XPS 8300.

If anyone else updates their XPS 8300 to 17.2.0.0, and it does fix the disconnect, please report back.

Couldn't I just install the PCIe card and then uninstall the Broadcom via the control panel?

This article explains the above scenario

If you have onboard networking, you will have to disable it in the bios before installing a new network card.  Do you have a Desktop or a Notebook?  I have a Dell XPS 8300 Desktop with a onboard Broadcom Network Adapter and my previous advice was based on the assumption that you have a desktop computer.

If you have a laptop, you will probably want to get a USB Network Adapter which is Windows 10 compatible instead of a PCIe Network Adapter Card.

In either case, you will need to disable the onboard networking.  If you are not comfortable with this, you can ask a friend to help you with it.

You Da real MVP.

I'll report back when it works. But at this point I've replaced everything but the motherboard, so probably going to do that anyways, between this, the pci-e incompatibilities, and the sleep issues, I might as well.

I have a desktop xps 8300.  Thank you so much for your help and advice.  Going to go with the PCI e card so as not to use up a ubs plug. Someone told me about the BIOS and I have a friend that can handle.

I really appreciate your help!

Hey guys,

So when I update the Network card I get an issue with the sound. The audio starts crackling, and video starts to slow down. I have tried installing different versions of the Realtek Sound Card, but to no avail. Any advice on how to get it working?

Is it because I connected my monitor via HDMI? Thanks for any and all help!

Hi guys,

I tried using the new Network card, it is working fine as the Internet does not drop. But I am having issues with the audio, it starts to crackle and slow videos down. I tried rolling back to an older Realtek Driver, as well as update to the newest one, and still no luck. Any advice on what to do? Thanks.

I am connected via HDMI, does that matter at all?

Is your Realtek an onboard audio or seperate PCI card?

Not sure. I believe it is onboard. I didn't modify the system at all. If there is a way to check please let me know.

Hi, I'm one of the jerks who Googles for answers and never thanks anyone...

I spent a week trying to figure out this Windows 10 not connecting to the network problem and when I finally stumbled on your answer it fixed things right away and I've had a rock-solid connection for a week... enough that I wanted to actually reset my password and log in so I could thank you.

Thanks again! Once again Windows is like a jigsaw puzzle where you have to tweak and rearrange and figure stuff out. I'm getting too old for this...
