XPS 8300 different graphics card

I just got my XPS 8300, I had ordered the AMD HD 6770 1GB graphics card. Now when I check the device manager it says 6700 series , when I used a third party software to check my specs it said I have the ATI HD 5770. Is my card really the HD 6770 if so is there some way to check. Also another thing I found is that the 2 usb ports on the front are not working. Please help.

I would question the 3rd party software, since the Device Manager report is the same as what is supposed to be in there.  You can use the AMD driver scanner and see what it reports.  www.amd.com

The front panel USB connector, on the motherboard, may have come loose in shipment.  With the PC powered off, open the case and check the connector (actually check them all for seating.

The reason the 6770 is showing that it is really a 5770 is because it actually is.  These two cards have the exact same technical specifications.  AMD only added a few software tweaks to the 5770 in the area of HD and 3D tech, and then re-badged it as the 6770.  They did not change the GPU.

Some monitoring programs use different software to detect what hardware your system has, and for some reason certain programs may still be showing it to be a 5770 instead of the newer 6770.  It's no big deal, and shouldn't worry you at all.  There is no performance difference between the Radeon HD 5770 and the 6770 because they are the same card.

And yes, I had a problem with one of my USB ports when I first got my XPS 7100, but it was just a connector that wasn't seated properly.  Turn everything off, and check all your connections and plugs.  Mine was an easy fix.

Thank U so much for reply. If it's really same as 5770, why is it working worse than 5770. I compared them on my machines. My other machine has got hd 5770.  And when I check total memory on dxdiag, it says 745 MB (on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit). Could U explain this for me?

Not sure about that. It could be a driver issue, because the drivers will be different for each card. I would go to AMD's website and get the latest 6770 drivers (and 5770 drivers too, for that card), and see if this improves the performance, and corrects any discrepancies.

I haven't used dxdiag for quite some time, and it could be a glitch in that program. Try using GPUZ.  It gives you a lot of specific info about your cards.

Also, make sure you aren't "bottlenecking" your 6770 card with a weak CPU, when compared to your 5770 rig.

The cards do have a few very, very slight differences, but they are both 40nm "Juniper XT" AMD cards, with 1024 MB (1 GB) of core memory. There is also always the possibility that you have a defective 6770 card. Try to do a little more research, and see if anyone else if having a similar issue.
