XPS 8500, GeForce GTX 970, PSU upgrades
Alright hey guys so I have been doing quite a bit of research talked to some friends and other forums and have come to the conclusion that upgrading my gpu will be a good call! Anyways after talking to a few people and a few computer experts I have been suggested to upgrade my gpu to a gtx 970 which I think will be great! The other issue I came across was whether or not the PSU will be able to handle that kind of upgrade. So after looking through some other people's suggestions and seeing what some other people have done that upgraded their xps 8500 I was suggested to go with the EVGA supernova 750B1 750W power supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR) the reason behind this one specifically was that it was quite a bit smaller in length so in tern I would be able to fit it in the tower and thats what other people have used when upgrading their xps 8500. Anyways sorry this is lengthy but I want to make sure this is a good idea, whether or not everything will fit properly, and any other general suggestions thanks!

EVGA is a brand, and they have PSUs are built by different manufacturers.
the key is the letters B1 or G1, G2 or GS
B1/G1 are built by FSP ( OK, but not great)
GS by seasonic. ( but not the best of what Seasonic can build)
G2 by superflower ( and it is getting great reviews.
the best is the G2.
The G2 will fit, but be very snug.
keep in mind you do not need 750W to add a GTX 970. 550 W of the right kind of clean power is ample. 650W is also good, but I strongly recommend a high quality PSU, and I'm don't include the B1 or G1 in that category.
The 8500 and the 8700 are the same PSU best I can tell and there are several described in this thread.

There is a step by step thread with pictures on the XPS 8500 and that EVGA 750B1 PSU on this thread by Andrew Russell. If you can wait for a GTX 1070, it would be worth the wait......would suggest to check these threads to make sure that it is indeed compatible with the XPS 8500.

XPS 8500 and XPS 8700 are very similiar chassis-wise, the XPS 8700 has a extra 3.5" bay setup for a HDD, whereas the screwholes on the XPS 8500 3.5" bay do not quite match up, though an easy work around is possible. The bios on the XPS 8700 was setup a little differently due to Windows 8 which led to a few problems initially.
