XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

One service rep said they had some pre-made systems that will ship relatively quickly,  If that applies to you, maybe there's hope. I revised my order to customize a couple components and that pushed the estimated delivery date  back from Dec. 10 to Jan. 7.

Well I guess I'm SOL on this. I ordered a 9000 on Nov 9th w/ expected arrival date of Dec 1, and I called today to ask what was going on (ignorant of the delays) and found out that the date has been pushed back to Dec 8.

Does anyone think I'll get it before christmas?

Same thing with me.  I ordered mine on 11-09-09 and checked on my order and was surprised that it had changed from 12-01-09 to 12-08-09.  I was not notified by e-mail of any delay and if I had not checked I would not have known.  I contacted my salesman and he could give me no reason for the delay.  This same thing happened to me last year when I purchased a laptop for my wife.  Two delays, then a cancellation.  I had to re-order and I received it in two weeks.  Hard telling where this one is going.  Not very good customer service.  A lot of people are leaving Dell for other vendors.  Too bad because this was once a fine company with excellent customer service.

What was your config--since we ordered the same day and we have the same delay, we're probably in the same boat.

I got the i7-920, GTX260, 750gb hd, X-Fi Xtreme, 6gb ram, no monitor, & single dvd drive

My config was i7-920, GTX 240, 1TB Hard Drive, X-Fi Xtreme, 9 GB Ram, 20 in Monitor, Dual DVD Drives.  I went thru this last year when I ordered a laptop for my wife.  I just figured it was a freak incident but apparently not.  The salesman says I should get it earlier than the 8th of Dec. but you know how that stuff goes.  I don't understand how they can keep doing this and still have customers.

I've heard that the i7s are backordered, so that's probably the killer. All signs say its gonna get delayed even more--hopefully we'll get it before Christmas.

I heard otherwise, at least from our neighbours to the north of us.  I know of one who ordered the i7 860 on November 13 and it was delivered just today.

Just to add to that (I live in Alberta)...

I placed my order Nov. 10 with an expected delivery date of Dec. 3.  Today (Nov. 25) I received an e-mail saying that it has been shipped.  Purolator confirms that it is in transit in the U.S.   After some of the horror stories I've been reading, I really feel fortunate (or I will when I have it in my paws).

Here is my config.  Maybe it will help some of you troubleshoot what part(s) is(are) causing your delays.  Or (hopefully) Dell has resolved their issues.

Wow you're very lucky, mine still hasn't shipped.

I ordered mine on the 22nd of Nov. and it says it'll be shipped by 21st of dec. It is a dell xps 9000 w/ similar specs as the posters here. Also coming w/o a monitor.

Btw off topic, I noticed a lot of you guys are purchasing gtx 260 as your graphic cards and I was wondering if its either core 196 or 216? I've heard that gtx 260 core 196 in 1.8gb are not in production anymore and that gives me the assumption that the gtx 260 I've upgraded to is actually 216 since they still do make 1.8gb 216 cores. Is this nVidia's way of competing with the ATI cards like 4870? Someone clear up some confusion for me, thanks!

I did some research when I ordered mine and I believe it is a 216 core.  However, I don't remember where I read it or how reliable the source is, because it wasn't really a deal breaker for me.

If my courier company delivered my system today like they were supposed to I'd check for you, but it won't be here until Monday now.

Not much of an answer but I hope it helps.  I can let you know Monday.
