Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The Dell of today is nothing like the Dell I first dealt with nearly 10 years ago!

That is my feeling also.

On a positive note (for me anyway) I was able to get Dell to cancel my XPS 8000 order due on 1/19/2010. I originally emailed Dell order support on 12/31/2009. I did not get a response until 1/5/2010 (other than the automated response, which stated that Dell 'usually' responds in 24 hours). Even then the response did not address the fact that I wanted to cancel the order. All it did was give me the status of my order...which I already knew. I replied to that response and actually received a response from Dell within 18 hours or so. That last response told me I needed to call some 800 number. I was dreading the thought of that (which is why I emailed to begin with). It actually turned out to be only a 15 minute wait on hold.  The person I talked with was not rude. I explained that within a week of my order Dell discontinued the XPS 8000 and that it took 5 days to get a response from Order Support. He didn't try to talk me out of cancelling or tell me that I couldn't cancel. I was very pleasantly surprised. I still will never do business with Dell in the future.

I decided to build my own. I ordered an Asus P7P55D-E motherboard with an Intel i5 750 processor, 4GB of Corsair Dominator RAM (p/n CMD4GX3M2A1600C8),  GeForce GTX 260 896MB DDR3 video card (p/n 896-P3-1255-AR), Corsair 850HX 850W power supply ,Western Digital 320GB SATA hard drive (p/n WD3202ABYS), Thermaltake Element V Full tower case (p/n VL20001W2Z - this case is a monster, even though I looked at the dimensions, videos and documentation I did not truly comprehend how big it is. I should never have to order another PC case).I wish the best to everyone. Take care

Thanks,

Steve

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Has anyone tried to return their XPS 8000 after receiving it?  I received my XPS 8000 on 12/24 and the Seagate 750GB hard-drive failed on 12/26.  Dell sent me a refurbished drive as a replacement but I'm not sure if I trust it.  The machine did not boot properly a couple of times so I suspect the hard drive.

As I understand there is a 21-day return period - I assume that is from the day the PC is shipped.  My XPS 8000 was shipped on 12/23 so that would mean I have until January 13 to request a return.   Does this sound right?

Also - does Dell typically make any offers or incentives to keep the machine and NOT ship it back?  If they offered to send me a NEW hard drive (NOT refurbished) or offered a discount that I could use to purchase a  new hard drive I might decide to keep it.  I've had several Seagate drives fail over the years and have had better luck with Western Digital drives...

Thanks...

Where does this BLK RTL show up? Are these marked as "Previously Ordered New", or "Refurbished"?

Thank you.

To be safe about your date, go to your Order Status, click on your order number and under Order Information is a link to your actual invoice.  At the top right of the invoice you will see a Receipt No. and Receipt Date.  I'm guessing that would be the date your 21 days would start counting, and I haven't verified the 21 day policy myself.

My receipt date was the same as the ship date when it entered FedEx's system, but if you are considering returning your unit, check the actual Dell records on the invoice.

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Hello everybody.

This is what I have done which may doesn't make sense to many of you but I did it anyways. During the whole time I was in contact with Dell (email and phone calls) and B3 and FT-C to make sure I get my order. Finaly I was contacted by a rep in the US and he suggested me to cancel my order and order 8100. He said he doesn't see Dell actually being able to fullfill all of the sold XPS 8000. He said that is why we moved from 8000 to 8100 and 8000 was discountinued(probably true to some extent, because Dell UK is still selling 8000 even they have 8100 as well).

He said as far as he sees the whole process there is not delay on 8100 yet. He matchedup the price what I ordered for 8000 and I wanted to add some componants to the system which I did. Delivery estimate is 1/29.

So I am back in the queu, fresh started. I kind of like talking to people who at least understand what you need.

Reason I am not going refurb? Because I know what I need from my system and I couldn't match anything up in OUTLET.

So I hope you guys all find you ways out of this and at least get your 8000 and meanwhile I will be here, my 8000 was cancelled but I have not got any confirmation yet so I am still in the game.

Lets see what happenes. Just wanted to update all of you here....

Thanks for the tip.  I just checked and my Receipt Date is the same as my Ship Date - 12/23/2009.

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The full ordering page for 8100 is up and I see that it is now about $200 more for my 8000 configuration I'm still waiting on.  The only difference is that the memory is 1333 Hz instead of 1066.  I don't think that is worth an extra $200 and I really doubt I'd notice the memory speed difference so I'm thinking my good deal I got in December is worth keeping.   It says expected shipping date is 1/28 with this 8100 but I really doubt it.  When I built my 8000 in early Dec it said the expected delivery date was just before Christmas but when I finished the order, all of a sudden the date changed immediately to 1/4 (Now it is 1/15).   That's just plain deceiving.  The expected shipping date should not change after you press the button to actually order.

Thats true. When it says 1/28 if your order rightaway when you get the order confirmation it will move up ONE day which is 1/29.

I asked the same quesiton from Dell USA and he said that is why we call it an estimate. We can NOT gaurantee anything with any orders and we can not give a definit answer regarding date issues.

So, I feel that I have been expermented here.

Mine moved up more than one day after ordering.  It moved up a week at least!
