XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

11/28 ordered Dell 8000 - order cancelled due to mix up between Dell and VISA. - expected delivery 12/24

12/05 reordered - Same as above, better price -$100 for taking Dell credit (became -$81 because of magazine subscription that was thrown on but not requested) + $75 in Dell gift cards - order expected 01/04

Delayed 01/14, 01/15, today new e-mail delayed until 02/05

Also end of Dec/First part of Jan I had to get a new card from my credit card company as someone tried to buy a Dell computer and have it shipped overseas!  Also the computer was very similar in price to mine!

I just got an email at 3:14 AM (today was the estimated delivery date) notifying me of my 3rd delay.  Now it is bumped up to 1/19/2010.  This is getting out of hand.  6 weeks for a computer is outrageous, but my deal was so good that I can't afford to cancel.  Did you get another delay too, DR2ooo?

Yes, same thing. I'm not extending it any longer. I'm going to look for something on the outlet. Even though my deal is good as well, and I can't find any better price for competitor, I saw even better once on outlet. I'll wait for another one to pop up.

This got to be illegal thought. They gave out the deals that they can't honor and are now trying to get out of it.

Also, when I called CS on Jan 8th I spoke to the rep and their manager. They both swore that my computer was ready and was shipping out even before the promised date.

An update on my scenario... XPS 8000 ordered 11-17-09...consistent delays since that time..emails...calls to non-support....conversations with several levels..all the excuses. and promises.... shipping upgraded to Next Day Air..as of yesterday was scheduled to ship 11-13 (today)..check order status this morning,,EDD changed to 1-19-10.... this is ludicrous at best...

As I love all of you guys here I need to be straight forward with this one. As I have mentioned, Dell rep in the US told me that they have shortage with XPS 8000 parts and that is why they started the 8100. He encouraged me to cancel my order and buy a 8100. I ordered my XPS 8000 on 12/9 but after 3 delays I cancelled on 1/8/2010 and ordered an XPS 8100 (they adjusted the price with same configs as my XPS 8000) and is still in production. But last weekend I was tired of waiting and went ahead and ordered an XPS 8000 from ebay. brand new and better for cheaper.

Suggestion from me>? If you just need a Dell machine then go ahead any either buy it from Ebay or Dell/Outlet. If you need a specific machine then you have to wait but consider that XPS 8000 may never be delivered to your house unless Dell starts getting the parts. Don't waste your money on HP and other computers as they are less reliable than Dell but this is an unfortunate situation for all of us. Try find yourself a Rep in the US for better communication. My ebay system should be here by this Friday and I will give some reports.

I have not cancelled my XPS 8100 ordered which has an EDD of 1/29/2010. It was a good deal that I don't want to cancel. May sell it later.

Cheers/

This got to be illegal thought. They gave out the deals that they can't honor and are now trying to get out of it.

I'm no lawyer, so I don't know if it is illegal, but, it is at least unethical.  Dell offered deals on a computer that they knew had a life of only 3 months, something they never disclosed.  Based on the stories we read in this thread, Dell knew by mid-November that they could not possibly fill all of the orders, but continued to offer deals on the same model. I purchased mine on 12/30, expecting to be able to get a computer, even though they gave me an EDD of 1/25.  The very next day they discontinued that model.  So, they didn't disclose that the computer I was buying was going to be discontinued the next day and replaced with another model in a week; and, oh by the way, we probably won't have the parts to build yours, but, be patient.

My story gets even crazier.  They gave me a different EDD on the monitor. That has been delayed twice and now I get the email saying it will be automatically cancelled unless I contact them to not cancel it.  However, that is just for the monitor, there has not been anything said about the computer, it still shows an EDD of 1/25 and is "In production". I contacted them to cancel the entire order and they told me that the computer was "too far along in the manufacturing process to cancel it".  When I asked if that meant it would be shipped soon, they said they didn't have that information!  How can they know how far along it is in the manufacturing process but can't give me an estimate of when it will be completed?

I agree, I think they are simply waiting until enough people cancel so the number of outstanding orders can be filled.

I know that I can go to BestBuy.com and get the same computer and monitor for the same price I was paying Dell and it will ship from their warehouse tomorrow. If I could just get a cancellation confirmation on my order from Dell, I'm gone.

I have owned Dell computers for at least 12 years and always turned to Dell first when I needed computers or monitors.  Never again.

Call them back and don't take no for an answer.  They have these drone customer service reps reading from scripts telling you that you can't cancel as a way of keeping your order.  Demand to talk to a supervisor and tell them you are contacting the BBB today if your order is not canceled immediately and that you are also informing your credit card company of the problem and will dispute any charges from Dell.

These delay dates make no sense (I know...big surprise).  I see a few people ordered late Nov. have delays out til 1/22 and 2/5.  I ordered 12/4 and have current delay til 1/20/10.  Someone else ordered 12/9 and just got delay of 1/19?  I think they are just sending out weekly delays to everyone.  Maybe if I see someone actually receive an order who ordered around the same time as me...maybe...I might think it has a chance of delivering.

Another funny thing I noticed (at this point it's all just humerous)

I just went to Dell's site to price an XPS 8100.  There were 3 levels of warrantee available...#1basic (which was just basic)...#2 (about $70 more includes spills, etc)...#3(about $150 more and the only difference from #2 to #3 is you can have your choice of times for a tech to call you back, and you get north american reps...no joke it really says that)  So I guess they are catching on...you can have good customer service...but it's an option you have to pay for!  Of course the warrantee only applies after you receive the system...I wonder if you can pay for a delay free order?

Today I received a delay until Feb 15th on my XPS 8000 order.  I called Dell to switch from the XPS 8000 to the XPS 8100.  I got basically the same configuration for a little more money (+$33).  The XPS 8000 has an intel P55 chipset, the XPS 8100 an Intel H57 chipset; the 8000 was 8GB DDR# SDRAM at 1066MHz, the 8100 is 8GB DDR# SDRAM at 1333MHz; the 8000 was X-Fi Xtreme audio, the 8100 is THX Trustudio; the 8000 had $75 in gift cards, the 8100 has a wireless card (part of package - might be handy).  The new arrival date is Feb. 5th.  Overall, I feel good about the change and price.  Now if I just don't get another delay, I'll be happy.

I don't know why everyone is complaining. You'll get it when you get it. If you don't like it and you get the opportunity to get out of the deal, then get out. You knew the terms when you ordered, didn't you?

I ordered an XPS 8000 from the outlet on 12/31/09 and got it on 1/7/10. The EDD was 1/11/10. I got the i7-860, 8GB RAM, two DVD players, GTX260 VC, 1TB HD, all for $939. The unit looks brand new and the tag on top says it was built on 12/12/09.

I added another 1TB HD, and filled the two external slots with eSATA ports.  Everything runs great, old software loaded up with no problem, I'm enjoying the experience, plus I saved $455 over a comparably equipped XPS 8100.

I guess I learned to be patient. I've ordered and waited up to 18 months for a wristwatch so one week (over New Years none-the-less) is nothing.

Everyone is complainung, because UNLIKE you we do not have systems to be "Very Satisfied" with!!

Did we know the "Terms" when we ordered? NO! We were lied to!

I ordered two XPS 8000 on 12/09/09. To date, I have had 4 delays, 5 billion excuses, rude customer service, and have been disconected almost everytime I was transfered to the next rude UNIMFORMED customer service agent.

It is difficult to be cheery when you are treated so poorly. I cannot just get my money back.

When I tried to cancel, I was told dell would issue a check within 30 days!!

I too, have ordered items that were over a year for delivery. (Heck, I even waited nine months to give birth.) However, I was never told by the doctor that it would only take 2 weeks, then be given weekly delay notices.

It maters not what the date was that we had to wait. All dates are relative to one need!

My order was in time for delivery during Hanukkah. Both of my systems were gift to people. I am sure you can understand opening gifts from them and replying, "I got you a gift ... honest ... it's a computer." Followed by 2 weeks later saying, " No really, I promise they are being built."

COME ON, I know people who have built houses faster than this!

I know we can all use a laugh, so I wanted to pass on that I got an email today from Dell.  Somehow I was picked at random to complete a survey being conducted by an outside company regarding Dell Customer Service.  It addressed my most recent attempt to get information from Dell regarding the delay in my order.  Here is how it started: "Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care on 01/09/2010 (deleted information identifying my order) . At Dell we are committed to delivering the best Customer Experience to our customers. Valuable feedback regarding your experience with Dell Customer Care will help us improve our internal processes and provide better service to you.

Dell has asked TNS, a customer satisfaction research company in the IT industry, to help conduct a survey regarding your experience. To help ensure we are providing the best possible experience, we ask that you provide us with your feedback in this brief survey. It should take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

It took me less thatn 5 minutes to complete.  the hardest part was picking the primary reason I was dissatisfied, since I could have selected everything they had on the list! I settled for "Delay in delivering product" because they didn't offer "customer service reps don't have a clue".

I hope they send this survey to some of you who have posted on this thread and that someone actually reviews the results of the survey.

Keep smiling.

TDB53 & DR2ooo,

"....This got to be illegal thought. They gave out the deals that they can't honor and are now trying to get out of it."

."....... I am an lawyer, and I can tell you it is not legal for them to say we cannot cancel our order if it has been at least 30 days post order date.  Please note at the top of every email about your delay it states you have to give the OK. This is FEDERAL TRADE LAW! It does not matter how far along they are in production, they haven't the part to finish and deliver. If you have decided to cancel and they try the line, "It's too far along in Production," inform they you now know that they are in violation of FTL! They will allow you to cancel!

Furthermore, the estimated delivery dates EDD's are extended by never more than 10 days. This again, is due to FTL as, they have to give you a date for approval no more than ten days out. You will continue to receive postponed EDD's instead of just being told that they don't have any clue as to completion date!

Wow, when I previewed this, the word that describes my profession (starts with ATT , and has OR middle then ends with a NEY) become astricks. As we all know, that gets your post removed!!!!

Good luck.

TDB53,  I didn't get an email survey, but I did get a popup survey about my experience as I viewed the Dell webpage.  When it asked what I liked best about the page I said that it was better than the customer service and maxed out the character limit with all my complaints.  Then it asked what I liked least!  Needless to say, I ran out of space on  that one.  I did get a lot in on that 5 min. survey!  I just selected "other" from the options and wrote whatever I wanted them to know...even if it was completely unrelated to the question.  I don't know if it did any good, but it made me feel a little better

It seems like DELL has lots of happy and satisfied customers here...

My new Dell XPS 8000 will be here on Friday. I told you guys before, just cancel and order form somewhere else or I can give me XPS 8100 away when it comes out.
