XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The previous thread that mentioned issues of the Studio XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 being delayed or having extensive build times was locked. After a months time I had ordered mine (9/26) and it was supposed to ship on (10/22), after two delays it finally shipped out and will be received today (10/28). If you have any issues or have found any solutions to help get your systems sooner please help others that have also been in this predicament. It would seem the main issue is due to the high demand of I5 and I7 processors and parts being backordered. If you call customer service after a delay often times they will upgrade you to one day shipping, even though it took them three days to actually get it out.

I'm not asking if anyone has received an order on time.  I'm asking if anyone at all has received an XPS 8000 this year.  It could have been ordered in October.  It would just be nice to know that Dell is still able to manufacture these and ship them out.  If no one has recently received an XPS 8000 (delayed or not) then there is obviously something seriously wrong.

I haven't received the one I ordered in December, I have an EDD of 1/25, but, the computer I bought from Dell Outlet at 2:04 p.m. CST yesterday shipped this morning.  So, I will have a computer next week.  With any luck, I might get the first one I ordered the following week.  I'll let you know.

I know the computers from the Outlet are technically refurbished, but, we all know that a lot of them are cancellations or returned/unopened.  Why can't they use them to fill the old orders before they send them to Outlet to become "refurbished"?  And, of course, why has Dell been selling more XPS 8000s through their signature event the past 2 days when they can't deliver one's ordered 2 or 3 months ago?

Has ANYONE received an XPS 8000 from Dell in the past few weeks?  If so, when did you order?

Is that a joke or what? There was only one person who got it really fast.

Icedog7,

I ordered mine (XPS 8000) on Oct. 31 with an EDD of 11/16. On the morning of the 11/11, I got an email with a delay and new EDD of 11/23. I called to cancel my order and asked for a supervisor since the CSR refused to cancel it because it was already in production. She said that her supervisor was busy but would call me later in the day, but the supervisor never called. However, on 11/12 I received an email stating that the pc had already shipped and I received it on 11/17. I can tell you that it is an impressive system.

XPS 8000, I7-860, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HARD DRIVE, GTS 240, BLU-RAY ROM/DVD +/- RW.

I received an XPS 8000 this week but it was for the european market out of the factory in Lodz, Poland ; Dell's facility in Ireland was closed down last year and all european production transferred to Poland. I was quoted a 21 day delivery date and the machine actually shipped after 8 days and was delivered to me 12 days after ordering.

Received mine on the 16th of Dec. and I ordered on the 28th of November.

That is interesting as I ordered my XPS 8000 on 11/18 and still have not received it (current EDD 1/21)

Original order 11/18, EDD 12/28

Delayed to 1/5, 1/7, 1/14, 1/21.

I assume that come 1/21, it will get bumped another week to 1/28.

Has anyone that ordered earlier than 11/18 still not received their order?

Hello everyone.

Just got my XPS 8000 which I purchased from ebay. Please note that my XPS 8100 is still in production...

I7-870 2.93 and GTX 260 with Dual 750GB harddisk. I just need to upgrade my Ram to 8GB I have 6 right now.

I like the system as it is really small. It may not show me a big speed right now since my older XPS 420 is still running (Quad Core) but I wll run some game and 3d graphics to make sure it is fast.

But it is really smaller than my XPS 420,

@ nimche

Something I have been reading on other threads is that Dell upgraded the BIOS on most of the computers with i5 and i7 processors, so make sure you have the latest.  Apparently the old BIOS did not address all of the RAM and did not support HyperThreading/power boost and a few other items in the Brookfield and Lynchfield processors.  Those who have upgraded their BIOS claim greatly improved performance. There has also been a problem with memory sticks being loose, so if you didn't open the case to be sure everything is seated, you might not be seeing all of your RAM.

Mine was ordered on 11-17-09...the latest EDD was 1-19-09....finally threw up the hands and said to hell with it...cancelled the order..decided to call the sales number and see what they could do for me after hearing the sad story..800-449-3355 gets you a person in the US who was sympathetic...after some discussion with him and his manager I ordered  a Studio XPS 9000 with 8Gig mem.... i7-920 processor...1TB hard drive..Dual Optical Drives (no BluRay)...ST2310 monitor..GTS240 Video..7.1 channel audio..and 1525 wireless card...and free 3/5 day shipping for about $150.00 more than the original 8000 order.  the 9000 has a much bigger power supply, can go to 24 gig..more USB ports..etc.. estimated delivery on or before 2-10-10..

If your reaching the breaking point..give the US sales folks a call....for 8100 or 9000....

Now we will see how long this one takes..:)

Do you think that those of us who purchased the 8100 should expect the same delays? Ordered mine 1/8/10, went into production the next day. EDD 2/3/10.

Did you have anything added on to your XPS that could have delayed the order? Just curious.

Haven't heard of any, yet. If so, you might have to start a new thread.

While I am waiting for my XPS 8000, I needed another computer, so, I went to the Outlet and got an XPS 435T, now known as the XPS 9000 (they redesignated it when they started offering the 8000). I got the same specs you mention for less than I am to pay for the XPS 8000 (if I ever see it. EDD 1/25, no delays yet!). Of course, mine is refurbished, but the sales rep told me that most of the 435Ts they have in the Outlet were simply pulled back from retailers when Dell redesignated the model.

BTW, the 9000 has a much more powerful processor, hence the larger power supply. When they started offering the i7 900 series they were using a smaller power supply and found that the processor was continually throttling back.  If you put that baby through its paces and start using 3 or 4 cores with power boost and a little overclocking, you will need a bunch of power. The 9000 is a beast of a machine, not just a minor upgrade from the 8000.  Good choice! Hope your desk chair has seatbelts :emotion-2:
