Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

The PSU is underpowered and the computer shut down and restarted so many times, cold starts that eventually the RAID 1 was totally corrupt and the MOBO shot. They replaced the PSU and MOBO three times but too much damage had been done to the two hard drives. I have been fight with Dell tto upgrade the PSU, the PSU ATI recommends JUST for the video card is 500 watts, Dell puts in 475 for the whole thing! As soon as I finally get it I will upgrade the PSU and send Dell the bill. Naturally Dell has to muck up everything and their PSU is not a standard size, finding one that will fit there is hard and expensive. No standard ATX PSU will fit.

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Welcome to DELL! I have been waiting nearly 6 months for a working computer, the replacement unit, (first holds a door open) it now more than two months late. I read in the news that despite the fact the US has an unoffical unemployment rate of 17.8% and this is an American Company, founded and built by Americans and widely held by Americans, during Dec and Jan they have been shutting dow two US factories and laying off thousands, opening factories in Mexico, China, India and I think Indonesia, So the reason you have no computer is there is none organized enough to build one!

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Well, my order has been canceled and yesterday my outlet computer has been delivered. The actual build date of the computer was Dec 21, 2009, so I'm guessing somebody just canceled their order and I got one hell of a deal on it.

I've ran it through a couple of tests, made bios adjustments, fresh reinstall and it's producing extremely good bench marking results. So far, so good. I don't want to jinx it, but at this point I'm very happy, finally. Feels like I physically worked to actually get it. 🙂

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Order date: Dec 26, 2009

Estimated shipping date: Jan 22, 2010

Received an e-mail this morning, saying the order will be delayed, with no specific date. It also says if the PC has not been shipped within 5 working days, I would be provided an update. Right now, the order is still  "In Production."

I've come across a few posts they said their orders were cancelled without notification, I'm just wondering, in that case, is the refund automatic? Or do I have to call in to get the refund?

I am guessing if your order is canceled that the method you used to fund the purchase should be credited the amount but as a responsible consumer, one should always make sure when making purchases from any merchant, that if an order is canceled that the money is credited back/refunded. Bear in mind that it may not be refunded as quickly as it was deducted, but eventually it should go back. I placed an order for two items and one shipped and they only charged me for the item that shipped. I assume it is standard practice for them to charge you for items as they ship but you might have to confirm with their customer care department.

Re: XPS 9000 and XPS 8000 delivery delay issues

Just got notified of my 4th delay.  Woohoo.  Called up customer service and the rep told me that the reason the XPS 8000s are so delayed is the popularity of the deals last year.  Then he read from his script saying something like, "I can assure you we are working very hard to get you this system."   What a joke.  There is something seriously wrong, because I haven't seen anyone post about receiving an XPS 8000 at all this year.  Shouldn't the people who ordered in October and November be getting theirs by now?

Ordered XPS 8000 on 12/09/2009

EDD - Original - 01/04/2010

EDD - 1st Update - 12/28/2009 (They changed the shipping method to Next Business Day.  After that I assumed there would be a delay coming soon...)

EDD - 1st Delay - 01/08/2010

EDD - 2nd Delay - 01/12/2010   (Along with the email and phone call, "Order Delayed.  Your Action is Required")

EDD - 3rd Delay - 01/19/2010   (Along with the email and phone call, "Order Delayed.  Your Action is Required")

EDD - 4th Delay - 01/26/2010   (Along with the email and phone call, "Order Delayed.  Your Action is Required")

Under FTC regulations, after the 2nd delay they are required to cancel the order unless you specifically agree to continue waiting.  If you got an email this time you will probably get one next time, if there is a next time.  However, if this is just your first delay, there will not be a cancellation unless you contact them and ask them to cancel. I think those who said they were cancelled without notification failed to check the box on their order asking for email notification. I know they ask for your email when you order, and that should automatically go into their system, but, it doesn't. So, like I said, if you got email notification this time, you probably will next time. Hopefully that will be a shipping notification.

I have never seen them charge a card before they ship, but, as the other post suggested, don't take anything for granted, check with your card issuer.

How irresponsible!  Why can't they give them a better script. Based on things I have read on business sites, there are a number of possible reasons for the delays, from Intel not producing many of these chips because they were getting ready to release the upgraded version at the beginning of January, to one of the licensed motherboard manufacturers deciding not to produce the motherboards for these chips when the new chips, needing different motherboards, were due out in January, to Dell closing manufacturing plants in the U.S. in December and laying off over 5,000 people, therefore subcontracting with Mexican companies to manufacture the PCs at a time when they were offering killer deals on the computers. They are working hard at trying to reduce costs so they look good for the shareholders.

I have been a Dell customer for years, even putting up with these delays instead of going to HP because I always felt they offered a better product. However, now that the machines are being made elsewhere there seems to be a lot of quality control issues with those computers that are shipping. I don't know that I would be so patient. I am giving them one more delay, then I am gone.
