XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

I have a brand new XPS One 27 with WIndows 8 and have had this issue off-and-on since I got it. If computer is left on it goes to sleep - but later when I wake it using the mouse the screen just kind of 'blinks' but doesn't come back on to get me to the sign-on screen. I end up crashing the computer by holding the power button down and rebooting...which can't be good. Any suggestions of what's causing this?

thanks,

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

Hi LouRicc,

It appears to be an issue with the drivers. Please update the drivers below mentioned link depending on the video card installed on the system:

nVIDIA Graphics Driver: http://dell.to/15JgCRq

Intel Graphics Driver: http://dell.to/13wVGZ

Once the video drivers are updated, please update the BIOS from the link http://dell.to/ZKjskS. Restart the system and check its functionality.

Note: Before updating BIOS please ensure that no external devices (flash drives, printers, external hard drives) should be connected. All other programs should be closed and documents saved. Connect your computer any surge protector (if available) to avoid any unexpected shut down.

Hope this helps. Please reply if you have any questions.

Thanks & Regards

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

I went into Device Mgr, right clicked on both NVidia & Intel Graphics, and clicked  "Update Driver Software" and both times it came back with I have the most updated Driver. Also not sure what BIOS I currently have now, so wasn't sure if reloading ver 10 would do anything bad?

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

Both Keyboard & Mice devices already had the selections you mentioned above.

The items under "Universal Bus Controllers" that did have Power Mgmnt options did have the check in "Allow the computer to turn off device to save power", but the "allow this device to bring computer out of standby" was greyed out and could not be checked.  This was under items like Generic USB Hub and USB Root Hub...

So I didn't change anything yet... let me know what you think.

thank you

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

Remove the check from "Allow the computer to turn off device to save power", and then retest.

* Open Power Options by clicking the Start button
* Click Control Panel
* In the search box, type power options, and then click Power Options
* Under Select a power plan, click Show additional plans, and then click High performance
* Retest

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

I've updated both Drivers, as well as the BIOS...

Last night I put the computer to "sleep" and this morning the same exact issue occurs...the screen blinks a little, but then I have to crash the computer & reboot for it to work.

Any other suggestions?

thanks.

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

Hi LouRicc,

It seems that you have tried to update the drivers by right clicking on the driver in device manager and selecting the option of update drivers. Please follow the below mentioned procedure to install the video drivers:

  • Open 'Device Manager'.
  • Under 'Display Adapters', you will find the video driver listed.
  • Right click on it and click on 'Uninstall'. (Check and make a note of the driver installed on your system and re-install the driver from the below steps accordingly).
  • Check the box to delete the software.
  • Restart your system and click on the link one of the link shared above depending on the video card your system has. Install the same video driver which you uninstalled from 'Device Manager'.
  • Click on 'Download File'.
  • Select 'For Single File Download via Browser'.
  • Click on 'Download Now'.
  • Save the driver on your desktop.
  • Once the driver is saved on desktop, right click on it and select 'Run as administrator'.
  • Install the video driver by following the on screen instructions.

Also, reset the power plan to defaults under the 'Power Management' settings. Make sure the Hybrid Sleep Mode is disabled under the power plan settings.

Please reply if you have any questions.

Re: XPS One 27 - Monitor Doesn't "Wake Up"

I have been having the same problem with my Inspiron 660 that I bought in October of 2012, and am on the phone as we speak still trying to get it resolved. They've replaced the motherboard 3 times twice within the past two weeks, the power supply, the cooling fan and the heat sink. Yesterday I received a restore disc and the problem still exists. I'm on hold now to speak with a manager, but they wanted to replace the motherboard again. The one in it is brand new not even a week old. This is the worst costumer support ever. I've always bought Dell, but after SEVERAL hours after months of going in the same circles is enough. I have a defected machine that needs replaced now Dell.
