XPS730 H2C High Idle temps! need help pls.

just got the 730 h2c and i noticed that the idle temp readings are averaging 60C and i contacted dell and they told me that it was normal to idle at 40-50C they said that ESA will do its job to cool the ssytem when needed, anyone who has 730 h2c please advice on this.

730 H2C QX9650 Factory OCed to 3.67ghz GTX280 2GB 1067 500GB Vista Home x32

Re: XPS730 H2C High Idle temps! need help pls.

I haven't got much help, but just a comparison.

I have a XPS 720 air cooled Q6600 and 8800GTX, my idle temps average 22C-31C over the four cores and 51-53C for the gfx card.

I think your temps seem a little high for H2C, but hopefully someone more experienced will come along.

Re: XPS730 H2C High Idle temps! need help pls.

someone here at dell had a xps 730 that idiled at high 80.s....dell tech stated that the fan inside the H2C cooling unit that was bad. That was causing the rear fans to compensate - but they couldn't and the dell owner got  random shut-downs. The Tech also replaced the complete H2C unit just to be safe.

now his  CPU fan is now running at 100% vs 1% as before. And his CPU temps have dropped from the high 80's to the high 50's.

so your idile temp of 60c seems normal

I have the same overclock and processor with the H2C as you. I would agree with Dells assertion that the computer should idle around 40-50C.
My CPU idles around 46-48C according to realtemp in a room with the temp of 65F.
I would say that 60C sounds high to me, if you don't have a lot of things running on your computer at idle.
I had problems with the cooling in the past. H2C unit and fan inside were replaced and the cooling problems went away - but it's hard to say if that it's the same problem as you.

it does seem idile at 60c is somewhat warm,,i would not be happy with that temp.. my e8500 runs at 38c all the time surfing......

run this program and see what temp you have-

Tjmax is the max theremal junction temp This is the value where the chip would shut down. The temp monitor programs use this value in computing the temp that they display. This value is fixed by the chip maker and is a info only value.

Re: XPS730 H2C High Idle temps! need help pls.

thank you for the responses and i have fully tested this machine after posting this. i have a 64bit now(not related to heat issue) test crysis warhead 1920 x 1200 x4 AA played for 15mins and after playing real temp now shows 40-50 C it idles there and it stays there even when i play intensive games. i think i just needs a break in - haha, but after testing it seems now for me that its normal to show a 40-50 temps most are around 43C. maybe the H2C liquid gel needs some circulation in the system to fully cool the system as the time a posted this it was out of the box still components where not even warm inside so i was just concern but thanks for the inputs. id imagine the OC'ed to 3.6 takes a lot of heat. so i guess this is normal.

Re: XPS730 H2C High Idle temps! need help pls.

The key here is as you say the temps stay in the 40-50 deg range. this means that your cooling system is doing it's job. The point of a cooling system is to keep the cpu as cool as possible underload. I would consider your temps very good and the cooling system is doing it's job as designed.
